The farmers are all switching to corn and making a fortune. Corn is selling for 4 to 5 times more than it was last year. It's the new cash crop.
The wheat production is down and the ethanol production is up.
I just heard a story that Heinz is looking the revise the recipe for their ketchup. The price of corn syrup has gone through the roof and they can't hold their retail price unless they can find an alternative to corn.
The ranchers use corn to feed livestock, so meat prices have been effected too.
