When I had my 4-H trapping club, in the summer we would trap turtle and have a big turtle fry as a fund raiser. Old timers came from near and far. We pan fried the turtle and then baked them for about two hours. It was good.

It was about a seven ponder so I'm sure I netted plenty for the soup. The one in the picture was too small (they are a major pain to clean.) Anyway, who would have thought a turtle could climb a fence? It's trying to climb out of my rabbit enclosure.
