Big Daddy's House: straight men from the southeast flock
Big Daddy's House: straight men from the southeast flock
Seattle Post Intelligencer - USA
I received a copy of Aaron McCargo Jr.'s premiere of Big Daddy's House, the spin-off food show from the Next Food Network Star season four, and discovered his mysterious new audience (mentioned in judge Susie Folgeson's last video blog).
I think they're shooting for straight men from the Southeast to New Jersey.

Aaron McCargo Jr., courtesy of Food Network
He's a family man, who cooks high-calorie foods, with simple enough recipes that anyone could follow them.
It's not about class or making gourmet meals. It's about making simple, home-style foods. (By home-style I mean simple and fattening, unlike Paula Deen who is complicated and fattening.)

In my heat I felt like FN put Aaron out to fail. The time slot is the worst. A family show is not scheduled when the family is in church. There is no replay. Aaron’s show should be aired at night or through the weekday hours. In your face FN. Show is being accepted by everyone even his haters. FN will have to make a move to give the full public support to Aaron. Or, will you leave him out to dry to please the few you got mail, etc. from.
>>
I felt they should not have announced Adam’s show unless they had finished airing Aaron show or renew his contract.
>>
I feel so sorry for Aaron. This man has been put through the ringer because of his dream and desire.
>>
As far a FN saying Adam had millions of fans. He did not even finish in the top three vote result for fan favorite. Does FN think Aaron did not have fans? Last time I looked at the voting he was second.
>>
Note to FN: When are you going to address the success of Aaron’s show and give him a little support in the public (not behind closed doors).>>

Wasn't Guy on in the same time slot when he started? He did okay, even got another show.

With guy's show I don't think it was designed to be a family food type show and I know they did not give his runner up a show immediately.
I don't know but FN just seem to becoming a little too "Hollywood" with the drama and all. And again, I could be having a bad hair day (just would not comb right this morning).

All the winners start in that time-slot. There are quite a few people watching, or TIVo, taping or whatever to watch it later.
I think he has a lot more fans than those that voted. Those online voting things aren't entirely accurate as many people just don't bother.

I don't think it's your hair. I am sure it's lovely.
People do seem to like Aaron though. I am sure it will help him. If they were Adam fans they might not be big supporters of his anyway. Some of us still feel a little sting over Symon beating Besh. So I am sure some people would feel that way for this competition too.
I don't like it that they never run any of the weekend shows by the newer stars again. All the more established stars seem to get re run constantly and the new people some of us never get to see because they are on in an inconvenient weekend time slot. I still haven't seen Anne Burrelle either. They keep saying they want to draw more women to their daytime shows, maybe they should try that with the weekend shows airing when the kids are back in school during the day.

Thank you. You are very knowledge of the FN and their shows. I am new. I and my hair feel so much better knowing this is the way the other shows have gone.

I would have actually been happier with Symon if they would have given Besh a show too, even if he wasn't the "winner" I would have still wanted to see him do a show. So maybe the people who liked Adam will like Aaron if their guy gets a shot too.
I really just wasn't that into who won this one for it to have mattered a whole lot to me personally. I will watch both shows if they are good, and Aaron's has been so far.

I didn't bother with the online voting when I saw they wanted you to sign up and give them your info... Because you end up getting spam from other places that they sell the list too.
I'm another one that wishes they would re-run those Saturday and Sunday morning shows again during the week. If they got rid of those competition shows they'd have a hour right there to re-run two a day.

I haven't seen Aaron's show at all, I keep missing it because I'm not usually watching Food Network at that time. Wish they would replay it.
Those who forget the pasta are condemned to reheat it.
