I don't think it really happened. Just TV added drama for something different. They probably did need more cake to feed all those people, but that's the only part I think was real.
Not true, Ace of Cakes is not scripted (well except for "Lead Chef"). Good, bad or ugly, it's all real. REALly.

Just asking..how do you know they didn't intentionally add this to their story for effect? It doesn't have to be scripted, it could have been adlib. Do you work for them?

I just know they don't do that and that the hotel thing really happend. Can't say more how I do, but I do. They don't make up things. That's the cool thing about this show. Unless they do something obvious like the scrapple bit, it's all them. Duff is a real cut-up and it mostly all stems from him. That being said, he's also very serious about his work. They just like to edit in mostly the fun stuff.

Guess I'm just a skeptic about some things. Thanks for sharing!

On Throwdown some of the stuff for that has to be scripted like when he gets the mission folder. The other night some ladies asked him to take their picture and as he held the camera up they biker with the assignment rolled into the shot and we are looking thru the camera on screen. I figure the would want a photo with Bobby instead of asking him to take it.

Even though that is a "reality" type show, I don't really look at it that way. I guess any cooking show would be a reality show though if they are showing how real food is prepared. But they try to add a few things to make it interesting.

Throwdown has a different production company. They do things differently. Personally I think what makes Ace so appealing is that they don't resort to scripts. The few times they've deviated have been very funny, but they don't do it as a rule. I can only think of a couple offhand - the Roger Moore cake 007 spoof and the Lead Challenge.

I work in the travel industry and deal with hotel employees and their antics regularly. The reason why I believe the housekeeping staff really did take the UN cake is because I had something similar happen before at a hotel. In my case, we ordered box lunches (breakfasts really) for some golfers who were being picked up before any of the hotel restaurants were open in the morning. Unfortunately, the vendor was late and arrived after the customers left. The bellmen, without asking anyone (my company or the vendor) decided to eat the box lunches!! This happened at a major hotel in a very popular vacation destination. I believe the incident on Ace of Cakes was real and not scripted.
