Does anyone actually eat these cakes?

Just curious. I watch Ace of Cakes or some of the cake Challenges and I always wonder. Do these cakes actually get eaten, and if they are eaten, do they taste any good? The way they treat the cake and how long it sits out while its shaped would suggest it is really dry. Then the frosting is so thick and heavy that I wonder how tough it is and if when cutting a piece do you smash the came beneath?

Or is this all really a visual item and these wild cakes are never really eaten? If that is the case then why waste the food? Why not make them out of spray paint and styrofoam.

Sometimes they do use materials, other than cake.

From what I've read on this forum, they usually bring a sheet cake for people to eat. The other creations are just for viewing, if I remember correctly.

I've seen on the show where the people dig into the cake. There was one of the vehicles they did and Geof was there when the guy literally just ripped it apart, he looked like he was going to cry.

Then why make any of it out of cake? Why waste the food? Make it all out of cardboard with a frosting coating.

They do eat them. I have seen the wedding cakes eaten many times on the show.

I know some are eaten, but I have seen many where they use materials other than cake to build the foundation and other parts. Maybe they come with directions as to what is edible?

I would imagine you can pretty much figure out what can and can't be eaten though. If its a metal support, don't eat it.

True, but I'd hate to try and cut through it!

Maybe a flunky sticks around and helps you serve it?

I have seen them make some supports out of rice crispy treats.
