I like that article, especially some of his comments.

The readers' comments have some good ones, too.

I see I have two of AB's "nay" items - the ice cream maker and the knife sharper. My ice cream maker gets a workout during the summer and I got the Shun knife sharper for I don't have a professional knife sharper near by (unless I was to drive an hour into Charleston and would have to leave them and then make another trip back to pick them up) and I sure as heck don't want to pack them up and send them out to CA to be sharpen by Shun. Can't do without them that long, for I use them almost every day. For the "yea" items I have the stick blender. I love that thing!

I want a stick blender. We don't have a lot of gadgets at all, so one little stick blender would feel right at home.

Now I have heard Alton say that he has a griddle he uses for nothing but pancakes. So even he is not immune.

Sometimes I wonder, I have so much that I have not used, or used once and go yuck. I have a stick blender, works great for soups. I have an Ice Cream maker, never used it yet. I have a griddle use it all the time. hot cakes and eggs for breakfast. The DW has a garlic press for her spaghetti sauce. The only knife sharpener is my stone, I sharpen my own knives. I have a melon baller, never used it for melons but works great for cucumber seed removal. Rice cooker belonged to the DW when we got married, could not bring myself to throw it out, sets under the cupboard taking up space. We have a dehydrator never used it, always was going too but never got around to it. The boys took their snow cone machine closet thing to a Margaretta maker we had, we do not drink so never needed one.
