Like several other lucky folks on here, I was fortunate to see Alton this week. When I learned that in addition to the Smithsonian he would be at a Sur La Table in Arlington, Va. I had to attend that as well.
At Sur La Table, Alton was in the culinary classroom next to the store. When I walked up to him he said, "Don't you get tired of coming to these things?" I replied about I did so I had to find other people get books for, I had 2 books not for me this time.
Then Alton said, "I hope the trip wasn't far." I told him just the next state over, West Virginia. He said, "I know that, that's why I asked." Then I had to let him know I was coming to the Smithsonian show later. He said something like good or that's good and asked my mom if she was coming too.
The people at the store took the photos during our interactions. I did get a chuckle out of this one:
The logo behind AB's head made it look like he has loops on his ears and that man peering in the window
At the Smithsonian, he didn't say anything to me about coming again. I didn't even get the Hi I'm Alton greeting either. I think he just said hi.
