I've got to get this off my chest

First of all, take a look at this video from YouTube, which some/most of you have probably already seen.
YouTube - Alton Brown's Good Eats Book-Food Network
Now, I don't know how anyone else feels, but this, combined with what I've heard Alton say, both in interviews and when my fiance and I saw him last month, leads me to believe that there's a good possibility that his contract won't be renewed next year. I'm sad about this, but I can understand why.
After my finance and I attended his book signing, Mark(who knew who AB was, and found him amusing, but that was about it) was so impressed with the man, and his knowledge, that he decided to make the investment and purchase the Ultimate Good Eats DVD collection from the FN site. One of the main reasons, (other than the fact that I promised him I would eventually cook everything on each DVD) was that a review of the set had mentioned that there was a recipe booklet included with each DVD).
Imagine our disappointment then, when we received the set, but the booklets were nowhere to be found. Mark immediately wrote to FN, explaining the problem, and received a reply the following day telling him that they would gladly replace the missing booklets.
Today, however, he received another e-mail from FN, telling him that after they had researched the issue more fully, the DVDs in question DID not contain the recipe booklets? Huh? If that isn't an example of double-speak, I don't know what is. The e mail stated that we could return the DVD's if we wanted but seeing as half of them have already been opened and watched repeatedly, neither of us wants to do that.
I'm just letting everyone know about this, so noone else makes the same mistake as we did.
And I have to say, I can't see that the man himself would be happy if he knew about it.
If he goes, he will be missed, but I'm sure he won't completely disappear. We won't let him.

I believe Alton himself has said he doesn't see Good Eats continuing after next year. But I don't know what his future plans are.

Well maybe Alton is like Emeril tired of doing the show, I always thought Alton produced his own shows, so that would leave one of two things he is not producing the show by his choice, or Food Network is dropping it. Don't know but either way I am going to miss the ole dude, it is like Emeril's Live we still have reruns but it is just not the same. Maybe Alton will come up with another show after all he has done for cooking and for us the at home chefs who want to be more professional just not all the way.

Just a tidbit here. The reviewers may have owned older copies of the DVD sets. I have the original FN only DVD sets, red covers and standard DVD cases, and those do contain recipe booklet. Sometime in 2007 (I believe) the FN sets were changed to look like the ones from Target, yellow covers and slim DVD cases. Those do not contain recipe booklets, never did. Only the old style had the booklets. The two most recent volumes, 19 and 20, are slim cases and blue covers sans recipes booklets as well.

As for AB going on after after next year. I have no idea what is happening with FN or him, but I do know from what he has said it may just but Good Eats not continuing. FN owns the rights to the show, not AB. But, he has said there are at least 3 topics he has for Feasting on. And that there's a lot to explore with food and culture. The show he has planned for next year, Foods that Changed the World, might be his new focus? I don't know, but I figure he'll be around giving us something and teaching us much much more!

Just to back up what was mentioned, I too purchased the ultimate set... the yellow cases... & never saw anything about booklets.

And my comments about the show continuing are in the other thread.

About me wearing my blue pineapple shirt

"It's hard to do Palistinian cuisine & crack jokes."

"But then I'm a nerd."
"Do this & people will call you a geek. Personally, I'm okay with that."

Change is good. Who knows, maybe Alton will do a show we will enjoy even more than Good Eats.
