| Oh, that squirrel! We had one in our attic above the garage for TWO years. We had the critter control people, exterminators, more critter control people, out to try and catch him. He/she was so smart!
We used sticky paper at one point and he/she got stuck but dragged it across the attic. Then, it went through a tiny opening, which was their 'door', and must have yank really hard. There was the sticky paper with its fur attached! Gave themselve a bit of a fur removal procedure! I kept on looking out at the yard hoping to see a squirrel with a bare leg, but never did.
After $800.00 in cost, and $900.00 in damage, I finally caught it. They put the trap/cage on top of the roof and I put an ear of corn inside. Within minutes the door closed and there the little thing was.
They moved him about 30 miles from here and released it in the woods. I must admit, it did have a cute face, but what damage it caused. Ate through many Hallmark ornaments that were over 25 years old, shredded Christmas paper all over the place, pulled out all the Peanuts ornaments from the boxes (must have been playing with those) and buried nuts all throughout the insulation. It was comical but made me so angry at the same time.
Hopefully it is happy in the new location. At least they didn't have to put it down when this happened. The law was just that they would remove the squirrel at least 25 miles away.
There was a law passed a couple of years ago. If it isn't a native Oregon squirrel, they destroy the poor things. Until this happened, I didn't even know we had a native squirrel.
