Rep Power: 1 | Ducking tomatoes here....but I don't care for "Good Eats" either. While I do like Alton as a personality, I personally can't handle watching this show. I guess I'm more of a 'gimme the darn info, please' type of person and don't care for all the fluff, smoke and mirrors as well as the long, drawn-out format that goes along with the show. If I need assistance, I refer to my copy of Shirley Corriher's manual. That's not to say I don't watch him on occasion if a topic piques my interest. I do like his "Feasting on Asphalt" series. Considering the overkill of some of the other FN hosts, I don't think Alton's on an inordinate amount of time. Personally, there's so much to watch on TV today (food-related or otherwise) that I'm glad that the FN reruns their shows after midnight. My DVR can only record two shows that are on at the same time so I usually have to set it for the ones that run on the late-night schedule. Boof, the only advice I can give you is to avoid his shows. But much like Paula and Rachael, sometimes you can't avoid the glut of promos for their shows and just have to bite the bullet. I've done it so often I have to see the dentist every three months, LOL.

Rep Power: 1 | All of the regulars here probably know that I adore Alton. He is my very favorite Food Network personality, heck probably my favorite TV personality. But, I understand that we all don't have the same tastes, that's the way it should be, so what one person finds annoying others will love.
My biggest problem with this poster is when someone comes in and calls for the removal of a host because s/he doesn't like that host. Sure, there are people on Food Network (and TV in general) I'd love to get rid of, but I just don't watch and let the people who like that show/host be happy.
Then the remarks like Alton being condescending and talking to the audience like they are idiots are just not true. The whole hogging the focus on Iron Chef America and acting like the star, again not true. As for the repeating information on ICA, that's the way TV works. Host on shows with similar formats do the same thing, recap to catch viewers who may have tuned in since the break. I felt that those statements were more of a personal attack on him rather than criticisms of his shows.
I'll try to shut up now

Rep Power: 10 | Really there isn't one FN celebrity that everyone agrees is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It just won't happen. Doesn't happen in any segment of society.
We all agree to disagree.

Rep Power: 1 | *Waving white flag* here, we all have our favorites and, while I agree with Mise that if you don't care for a show or personality just don't watch the show, I've found that occasionally some of my positive comments on a particular chef/host have been shot down by others, making me feel my opinions don't matter. I know it's hard to read the 'tone' of a post but I'll just suffice it to say that being fairly new to this board, sometimes I find it a little offensive. That's not to say that I probably haven't done the same thing but it wasn't intentional.

Rep Power: 1 | Alton is probably my favorite on FN. Having cooked for a long time, Alton is about the only host that actually teaches me new "tricks" and I crave new ideas and techniques.
I like that his face is NOT plastered all over consumer goods, the ones that he does promote (knives) are well thought out, and you know that he uses this product if his name is on it, some of the Rachel Ray (lower end cookware) is just plain cheap painted aluminum nonstick stuff, and Paula's cookware has gotten dismal reviews from users.
I am not arrogant enough to think that I know what is good for Food Network, there are hosts that I don't care for, but I am not the type of person to hate anyone that I have never met because their "real life" personality can be much different than their "on air" personality. There is a reason why they promote some hosts heavily because they bring in ratings, and that is how they attract advertisers and that is how we have Food Network.

Rep Power: 1 | Think I will have to give Alton a go. Will check the TV schedule and find him.
Rainy day here, so perfect excuse. NFL draft getting a bit boring. :-/

I respect the fact that you don't care for 'Good Eats' and that you framed the comment by saying that you don't care for the show but never once said get rid of the show or Alton. That's my biggest problem with the original poster (and people who act like that about other issues) because they don't like something or someone they want to get rid of it completely despite the fact that others my like it. When I say I don't like a particular show/host, I try to state it as -- whatever isn't my cup of tea, but someone else may love it.
I know I have made comments about not liking certain chef/hosts or have criticized something one of them may have done, but I try to keep those comments to pointing out mistakes, poor technique or bad information. In in my opinion Sandra Lee has the worst show on FN, but that's my opinion and I respect she has fans and the show is filling a need. I'll defend anyone's right to stand up and say they love her show and she's great and that's I'm totally off-base by not liking the show. As BerryBaby mentioned, we all can agree to disagree. Heck, I didn't even chime in on the whole Robert Irvine controversy. And with that issue, I could see a healthy debate between people wanting the show taken off or the host replaced and those wanting to keep Robert.
This original poster just came in on the forum for Alton, made statements about how s/he perceives Alton and because that's his/her opinion then FN needs to get rid of Alton. Of course since Alton is my favorite, I had to chime in (several times ).
I also find it interesting the original poster has yet to make an additional comment. I'd love to lock horns with him/her on this one
Until then, I'll try to
