Awesome!
I've been waiting to see this since AB announced he was doing promos for Alaska Seafood!

That's great! Thanks for sharing that link!
He's the perfect spokesman for that cause.
Is it just me or do certain things seem even more credible when he's saying in it?

Another news story.
Fishing continues to be the deadliest livelihood in the US

Alton Brown of Food Network fame is the latest to tout Alaska seafood. Brown clears up confusion about food safety and sustainable fisheries with two words: ...

Well it worked on us. Last night we picked up the very last piece of fresh Alaskan Salmon that our HEB had. They were sold out. Did Alton Brown's video have anything to do with it? According to our fish guy, YES! When he tried to suggest farm raised, I said that I wanted Alaskan because I had just seen an Alton Brown video online about it. As it turns out, he had just watched this same video the night before, and according to him, a lot of other people did too. Which caused the rush on fresh Alaskan salmon that they were not expecting. (And as it turns out our fish guy just so happens to be a major fan of Good Eats!)
Later while we were still shopping, even though he was trying to clean up and shut down the fish market, he came and found us in the store, and gave us a 1 pound fresh Alaskan Salmon that they had in the back fridge (the story was that an employee hoarded it) hehehe.
We baked it with just fresh ground black pepper and fresh ground Hawaiian black lava salt and while that's not the first time we have done that by all means, it was so nice....
I think Alton's endorsement of renewable Alaskan salmon may have had a larger impact than what anyone may have expected, because it reached this small Texas town....Last edited by PicBuddy; 08-26-2008 at 01:20 AM. Reason: Typo

That's great to hear! It's definite proof that such a public announcement is making an impact.
I know that there are a lot of things that I don't do / buy anymore because of other public announcements / videos.
Proof that every small step counts.

That's great to hear! I bet AB would love to know this. The next one of us to see him should tell him!

Well, we went back to the fish market tonight and they are still out of fresh Alaskan Salmon, even though they get shipments daily. Tonight the main fish monger was there, cool guy that we talk to all the time while visiting. I asked him when it would be in again, and he said that he was supposed to have gotten more today at 4pm but it wasn't on the truck. And he said that according to the new guy (whom helped us last night), and I quote "That science guy on the Food Channel said something about it on TV or the Internet and everyone came in and bought every last slap-damn piece I had, by the pounds!" - Unquote. He even said that he had plenty of farm raised but that's not what everyone wants.
I asked if the other HEB in the closest city had any and he said "No they called me asking for some this morning".
Now, I would really like to think that this is widespread, but looking at it -analytically- (hehe), there was another major factor in our city that may have depleted it. The new college semester started today so all of the parents were in town filling their kid's pantrys and fridges. But now that's two of the fish guys that have said the same thing about the "Food Channel Guy", and two HEB's within 3 miles that ran out. So maybe it's a combination of the two driving forces.
I would be curious to know, if anyone goes to the store tomorrow, check out your own local fish market and see if they have any fresh Alaskan salmon at all. And maybe ask if they just recently sold out by any chance, and post what you find here. Because if any of ya'll find the same results, maybe Alton really did have something to do with it.... That would be pretty cool. And that's what I would like to believe...
