Well, we went back to the fish market tonight and they are still out of fresh Alaskan Salmon, even though they get shipments daily. Tonight the main fish monger was there, cool guy that we talk to all the time while visiting. I asked him when it would be in again, and he said that he was supposed to have gotten more today at 4pm but it wasn't on the truck. And he said that according to the new guy (whom helped us last night), and I quote "That science guy on the Food Channel said something about it on TV or the Internet and everyone came in and bought every last slap-damn piece I had, by the pounds!" - Unquote. He even said that he had plenty of farm raised but that's not what everyone wants.
I asked if the other HEB in the closest city had any and he said "No they called me asking for some this morning".
Now, I would really like to think that this is widespread, but looking at it -analytically- (hehe), there was another major factor in our city that may have depleted it. The new college semester started today so all of the parents were in town filling their kid's pantrys and fridges. But now that's two of the fish guys that have said the same thing about the "Food Channel Guy", and two HEB's within 3 miles that ran out. So maybe it's a combination of the two driving forces.
I would be curious to know, if anyone goes to the store tomorrow, check out your own local fish market and see if they have any fresh Alaskan salmon at all. And maybe ask if they just recently sold out by any chance, and post what you find here. Because if any of ya'll find the same results, maybe Alton really did have something to do with it.... That would be pretty cool. And that's what I would like to believe...
