Your downfall?
Memphis Commercial Appeal - Memphis,TN,USA
Last week I interviewed Alton Brown (story coming next week), who has also lost about 40 pounds. He says he'll never eat sweets again, and he limits alcohol ...

Holy crap, 40 pounds! How awesome! Very interested in reading that interview.

Losing 20 more pounds would make me happy (I wouldn't wanna lose much more than that, but I'd settle for 15 more). Thing is... I've already cut back on my downfall, which is regular soda. During weekdays, I now drink between 5-7 glasses of water (most of which used to be soda) & only have 2-3 cups of soda, occasionally a little bit more, but that's already a drastic cut from... 2+2+3-4, which is about half). I also work out every weekday & any Saturday that I work. I can happily say that I have lost about 8 pounds in about 3 months & slow is the way to go, but I'm also still eating everything I enjoy, just in moderation.

When I was a teen I lost about 20 lbs switching to diet soft drinks. I wasn't smart enough to switch to water yet at that age. Soda pop is a big part of the culture here. I am not sure why, but I think it packs on the pounds for a lot of teenagers. I wasn't overweight but I of course thought I was at a young age. It took me down to 90 lbs.

Seen an article just the other day on the diet soda, how it is causing obiesty now, they (who ever they are) are saying that the body is not getting enough sugar and it craves it causing us to eat more ? I am on my second twelve pack of ginger ale for the year, I drink at least 16 glasses of ice water a day and coffee in the morning, and I am still fat. Cannot quit eating snack cakes because I do not eat them to begin with, my problem is when I eat, I eat breakfast but no lunches ( that is part of the problem), and then dinner is always seems to be after 7 never can get it earlier, wife she will not try to eat earlier, says it is to hot, but than we always end up eating watching TV it is so hard to change habits when there is two of you and only one wants to participate. Guess I will die fat and happy anyways. anybody want an extra 80 lbs ? about what I need to lose

I've lost about 60 lbs in the past three months. Drink tons of ice water all day... at min. 9 20-oz. glasses of it. A have one caffeine-free Coke each day (it's the 12-oz. size). I eat breakfast, dinner is the big meal of the day and supper is something small like a sandwich or a bowl of soup. With the big meal early, more of it gets worked off instead of going to bed on a full stomach. I also have a small snack mid-morning and mid-afternoon like cheese and crackers, which helps keep your energy level up and keeps you from over-eating at meal time.

I've never had much of an appetite at breakfast, so I skip it, then plan my day on lunch & supper. We usually have supper around 7-730 which is an hour earlier than we used to, before we moved. I've never been one to give up anything cold turkey. I was also never a big water drinker, but lately I bring two 16 oz bottles to work with me & have been drinking atleast 1.5 of them. I'm usually able to skip snacking as I work at a bank handling money all day & my hands get all grubby. I do occasionally give in because most everyone else in the office are big snackers. :P

The way I figure it, what I'm doing now, I can easily do for the rest of my life. And I'm slowly losing. Both of which they say are best for you. I'm pretty happy... & getting happier as I see those lower numbers appearing on the scale.

Having thyroid surgery and being put on thyroid meds has also helped my weight loss. Before hand I didn't have any metabolism 'cause my dang thyroid wasn't working at all. Now that it's working, I'm not gaining weight, which was madding to me for I'm not a big eater. I use to just look at food and gain weight. Not any longer... thank goodness!

He ate a box of Little Debbie Swiss Rolls a day?

Wow!

That puts me in sugar shock just thinking about it!

I thought it was someone else who ate the Swiss Rolls?

And I'm sorry, but I don't believe the sweets will be gone permanently.
