Have Women Chefs Turned Invisible?

Have Women Chefs Turned Invisible?

Not literally, of course: In a Time Out article published yesterday, writer Rebecca Flint Marx stirs the pot a bit by making the case that while New York’s restaurant scene is strongly populated with women chefs, few of them are really mentioned by the food press. To illustrate this point, she singles out Eater’s coverage of a massive restaurant preview last fall that was apparently chock-a-block with dudes like David Chang and Tom Colicchio. "Curiously," writes Marx, "the post failed to mention the numerous notable female chefs in attendance."

ibcheft is on a distinguished road
I believe it is not they have turned invisible, it is more like, have they ever been as visible as their male counter parts ? I would say not, reason being in todays society it is looks that count for the bigger part of photographs being displayed in the adds, and with the super model being the standard for females, which we know most female chefs would not fall in this range they will not be talked about, or photographed as much because they will not sell magazines, papers, TV ads etc ... The male chef on the other hand if he is the slightest attractive, heavy, or not will because somebody is going to find him attractive and in turn they will sell. It has nothing to do with their skills, or their food, or their personality, bottom line can they or their picture sell. We even have seen it on here when TR is mentioned from Ina shows, or Giada's show, who gets, talked about more because of the looks, it has nothing to do with her cooking, which by the way isn't to bad. It is just a matter of fact that looks sell and money runs the world.
