Uplifting Throwdown!
How awkward! I was watching a show on the Food Network one evening and I saw a commercial for the Throwdown!with Bobby Flay. YIKES! It was a commercial that featured me!
Me chatting with the Famous Chef!
I cringed when I saw myself and heard my voice on TV. We’re always our biggest critics. But tonight (9.9.09 @ 9:00 p.m.), I’ll just have to deal with the personal embarrassment or fear, simply because I’ll be watching that episode when Bobby Flay challenged me to a steak fajita Throwdown! with my family, friends, Grace Before Meals guests, and members of Baltimore’s media. We’ll all be in Baltimore’s Little Italy from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. for the 9:00 premier of the show.

Enjoy a 10% discount off your total bill for a home-style Italian Meal in one of the participating Little Italy restaurants.
After dinner, come to the Da Mimmo parking area where the Summer Festival outdoor theatre takes place. The party starts there at 8:00 p.m. There we will have songs from “Musix,” snacks, books, and apron sales, as well as opportunities to get to know each other as family, friends, and supporters of Grace Before Meals. Then we’ll watch the show at 9:00 and find out who wins the big steak fajita challenge.
Please know of my gratitude to Renegade Productions, the Communications Departments for the Archdiocese of Baltimore and Mount St. Mary’s University, Da Mimmo’s Restaurant, and the Little Italy Association for helping to make tonight’s event so special. Please be sure to visit their websites as well as our Blast Sponsor, Bay View Cards.

I’m looking forward to seeing you there tonight. And if you don’t have a chance to see it tonight, the Food Network will air the same episode on Sep 20, 2009 @ 11:00 p.m. ET/PT. And after the event, let the Food Network know what you think of the show. Your e-mails feedback encourages the network to have more shows like Grace Before Meals. It’s always nice to get feedback, so please be sure to visit their Contact Food Network Page here, and make sure you visit our own website and the official Grace Before Meals facebook page.

See you tonight! Fajita Recipe
While many people have asked me to give them the recipe I used in this Bobby Flay challenge, I unfortunately can’t do that because the recipe will eventually go in the Third Edition of Grace Before Meals: Recipes for Family Life. I’m currently in negotiations with Double Day Publishers of New York as they expressed enthusiastic interest in being our publisher. But for now, since we still have a few more days of summer grilling, I can at least point you in the direction of the original Fajita Recipe I used. which the Food Network discovered last year and caused them to consider using me for one of their episodes.
Food Network Food Designer making the Fajitas look “pretty.”
It’s a simple recipe, but oh so delicious – so delicious that the Food Network saw it and invited us to their “table” and to share our Recipe for Family Life with them on Bobby Flay’s show! Click Here for video of the recipe. The Conclusion of a Novena – a Celebration!
I received many notes from people who appreciated last week’s Blast about the Novena for Families. I’ve heard from other families who struggle with special needs children. I hope the thought of our prayers with you and for you will help you to celebrate the end of the Novena. But remember, the “end” of the Novena doesn’t mean we stop prayers. As I wrote in last week’s e-mail blast, the Novena is a reminder of how we’re asked to pray without ceasing. At Grace Before Meals, we know life can sometimes give us a “throwdown” challenge. But with Grace, we can rise up to the challenge. Even the most surprising and difficult throwdowns can be uplifting. Let us pray.
Cathedral in Lourdes, France Father in Heaven, You raise us up on Eagles Wings in order to rise above the struggles that life can throw our way. As the Grace Before Meals Family celebrates the premier of the show tonight, help us to celebrate well by helping me to stay humble, keeping our team focused on the mission and message, and by sharing the joy of this service and movement with all of those who will watch tonight’s event. Bless our families in a special way, as we ask all of this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Ask Fr. Leo for fatherly advice.
Any submissions may be used in future Grace Before Meals publications.

And the Winner Is!!!
Fr. Leo’s Fusion Fajitas and the Grace Before Meals Team!
In case you didn’t join us for the Throwdown! Episode with Bobby Flay at last night’s Premier event, you can still watch the rerun of the episode on Sep 20, 2009 @ 11:00 p.m. ET/PT.
Hopefully you enjoyed the Little Italy Block party as well as the other Throwdown! parties that occurred around the country! And hopefully you also enjoyed the show. Once again, a word of thanks to EVERYONE (especially Renegade, Mt. St. Mary’s University and Seminary, Archdiocese of Baltimore, Maroon PR, Little Italy Association, Aldo’s Restaurant, Da Mimmo’s Restaurant, friends, and my family!) for making this a fun and inspiring event. Above all, thank you GOD for getting me through this whole Throwdown! ordeal.
Much of the media asked me “What’s next?” The short answer is: keep on doing what I’m supposed to be doing – work to help build up God’s kingdom!
And you can help the Grace Before Meals team continue to keep doing what we’re doing to help families grown stronger around the dinner table. Please consider helping us in the following ways:
(1) Pray for us!
(2) Be a sponsor for our website, our book, or the TV show?
(3) Contact the Food Network and tell them what you thought of the show. Who knows! If they hear enough GOOD NEWS from you, they may want to keep sharing the good news through their wonderful network.
(4) Continue to encourage your family, friends, and parishioners to sign up for the free weekly e-mail blasts.
For now, I’ll take Bobby Flay’s advice that he gives at the end of each Throwdown! episode and continue to keep doing what I’m doing, but to always be ready for whatever life can “throwdown” our way! With Grace, all things are possible. Even winning the Fajita Throwdown! against a master Chef!
Talk with y’all later after prayer!
