Beginning May 22, the online classes (located on yahoo.com) will capture the appeal of Real Food, provide viewers with "cook along" instruction and tips from Flay to enhance core cooking fundamentals, all as the determined chefs go from "barely able" to "table-ready."
Although Flay is known as a celebrated chef, restaurateur, cookbook author, television personality, and the first recipient of The French Culinary Institute's "Outstanding Graduate Award," he came to prominence with a style that proved that food didn't have to be fussy to be delicious and creative.
"There is nothing more delicious than good, honest food, cooked simply and with heart," said Flay. "The Hellmann's Real Food Summer School will not only demonstrate just that, but it'll be a blast. I'm all about making fresh, wholesome food and I firmly believe that wonderful and flavorful meals can be prepared simply."
"Thrilling grilling" will be the theme of the summer classes, showcasing recipes and techniques that make the most of the outdoor cooking season. The Real Food Summer School site will feature "wholesome" entertainment and information that cooks of any level will appreciate. Visitors can enjoy how-to videos and tutorials featuring Flay, behind-the-scenes contestant auditions, show trailers, recipes and more. Real Food Summer School is located on yahoo.com, and can be accessed via yahoo.com by searching for "Real Food."
"You can't get more 'real' than preparing simple, wholesome foods for one's family and it doesn't get more simple than Hellmann's ingredients of eggs, oil and vinegar," said Brian Orlando, Senior Brand Manager, Hellmann's and Best Foods.
"Bobby Flay brings a level of expertise that people admire but he's still real, relatable and can help everyday cooks bring their families together, which is a much happier and healthier way for families to eat. This show is going to offer simple and usable advice, while still providing top-notch entertainment," Orlando added.
Visitors to the site can also enter the Real Food Summer School Sweepstakes for a chance to win great prizes including a $20,000 Grand Prize Ultimate Backyard BBQ (a WeberŪ grill, patio set and hot tub for six, 32" outdoor TV, a $4,000 cash card for food and beverage, tableware, backyard games) in addition to daily and weekly prizes that include Weber grills and Bobby Flay's Grill It! cookbooks (Clarkson Potter, April 2008). Survey Says: Americans prefer dining at home, yet lack cooking skills to make Real Food
Sixty-three percent of Americans believe that eating at home is a better emotional experience than eating in a restaurant, according to the "Real Food" survey* commissioned by Hellmann's and Best Foods Mayonnaise. Heightened comfort, intimacy and satisfaction are some of the reasons more than six in ten surveyed prefer to have dinner at the family table. Defining "Real Food" as "food that tastes great... made from simple, wholesome ingredients," Americans crave home cooking and wholesome ingredients. Yet, nearly half of adults (48%) admit to needing help with everyday cooking in the kitchen. Almost one-fifth of those surveyed would describe their culinary prowess as "hit or miss" or just plain "horrible."
"Our survey found that more than six in ten adults (61%) crave 'home cooking like mom used to make' and this show is going to offer simple and usable advice, while still providing top-notch entertainment," stated Brian Orlando of Hellmann's and Best Foods.
