Bobby Flay + KOHLS + Alton Brown ROCKS!

Last week I posted a message about the best steak I ever made in my life. It was due to Alton Brown's Good Eats Episodes S01E01 and S07E something.....

We went to Kohl's last night and now own some nice new Food Network style cookware. I picked the Bobby Flay Grill Style Flat Pan :

http://www.kohls.com/upgrade/webstore/product_page.jsp?PRODUCT<>prd_id=845524892383358

And using the Alton Brown method of baking a T-Bone at 500 after searing it, was, well, GOOD EATS! 2nd Best Steak I have EVER Made! 1st was a Rib-Eye and this worked so nicely with a bone in Porterhouse, it should not even be legal. We have some slices left over to toss with eggs and tortillas for breakfast.

If you have never seared a ribeye or porterhouse on a blaxing hot iron skillet only to finish it in a 500+ over, please, please try it. You will be amazed.

And to follow up we actually went to KOHL's again last night (yep two days in a row), and I picked up the Bobby Flay Blender. We actually spent a lot more time looking at everything last night, as the previous evening the store was about to close. Some observations I have made;

- Almost everything is made in China. The only thing I found that was not made in China was Bobby Flay's wooden salad bowl, which is made in Thailand. I think we are going to get that one next.

- The Bobby Flay line was nicely represented, with two of his cookbooks, and even wood chips and a smoker. Three knives and a few cool looking grill spatulas as well as basting brushes. Yet I was disappointed that ours does not carry the ceramic cookware. Really want one of those bake to table Tapas dishes.

- The Rachael Ray line to me seemed small. Not a small selection, the pans themselves seemed small, and quite lightweight. My wife likes them and bought a saucepan. They have nice orange grips and of course her name on them. My wife pointed out that they seem to be marketed outside of the Food Network line, as we also saw them at Bed Bath and Beyond. And they are pricey. $180 for a full set.

There were a few Paula Deen items, including a book by her sons, it looked really cool actually.

Now, the Food Network line in all of the green packages, was dominant. Huge selection, and entire wall of pans alone and at least two entire isles devoted. But I have to say, we were not impressed. Nothing against Chinese made products, but to us they seemed to be average items, with a large selection, but nothing really remarkable about them. Unless you note the price.... Yikes... We have actually found a better variety at Target and Bed Bath and Beyond, as some items there are quite different in a variety of ways. I didn't see anything from the Food Network line that jumped out and said "Buy me!".

I am happy with my Bobby Flay Iron Grill. This monster has to weight at least 25 pounds and is the best quality one I have ever had. Now I just need to learn to maintain it properly. Even has the BF logo on the handle. I suspect Bobby personally approved of the design and quality before putting his initials on it. It's a nice one.

Hopefully this evening we will get a chance to use the new blender. It appears to be quite nice quality with a glass beaker. And a cool toggle switch for pulse or on. No speed controls, just pulse or on. It was $100 and I believe it should last for a few years. Has mixed drink recipes on the glass beaker, where we rarely make mixed drinks, but when doing so that should be a helper.

Overall, we're amazed at how much Food Network stuff is on display at Kohls. We might make a third trip soon as my wife has her eye on yet another Rachael Ray skillet. Maybe we will sneak a few cell phone photos that time and show ya'll what ours looks like. It's pretty cool actually.
