I got around to seeing Julie & Julia this weekend. I didn't think I'd like the movie. I'm not particularly interested in either J.C. or the "cooking the book" concept. I just went 'cause my husband wanted to see it.
Well, surprise! I thoroughly enjoyed it. And I thought Meryl Streep ROCKED the role of Julia. (I liked Stanley Tucci as her husband, too.)
Paul Child: "What is it you really like to do?"
Julia Child: "Eat."
I read just enough of the original blog to convince me that they realllllly cleaned up and polished the Julie character for the movie. And I'm not just saying that because blog Julie has a big-time potty mouth.
Maybe that's why Julia didn't think much of it. They mentioned it in passing in the movie. Julia had class, I can see her finding that disagreeable in polite company. And you don't know who your company is when you post something on a web site. It could be children.
I hope it's still in the theaters on Sept. 8th. That's my birthday and the DH is going to take me out for a steak dinner in town, so I hoping to add this movie to the package.

Happy Birthday to you !
Happy Birthday to YOU!
Happy Birthday to you !
My sons birthday is the 9th, mine is the 12th.
Do you buy your own gift or does your DH get yours? I found out it is best if I buy my own, that way I get what I want, and save her the trouble of trying to figure out what I really want.
Alot of famous people born virgos.

I loved Meryl Streep playing my hero! She was awesome. Honestly, I WAS afraid the portrayal might be over the top but--- FEAR NOT, she nailed it brilliantly. I should have known better having loved all of Streep's other famous roles where she was required to take on the spirit of the character.
I too was not overly enthused with the Julie portion of the movie as the Julia story could have totally been an entire movie unto itself. The cat was totally the star of that portion of the film!
Oh, and how about all the glorious food?!
