I really love using my piastra, but for chrissakes, I need to get more than a few uses out of them. The past three have all developed cracks which I assumed would lead to breaking. I returned them to Sur la Table with no problems at all. This last one I used once and it cracked a tiny biit, so I figured I would watch it. I used it again this past week and it looked fine. I put it in the sink to wash it and it just broke in to three peices. I'm bummed.
I think I'm going to find something similar made of cast iron.
Wow this has been a rough item for you to keep going. Were they all the same brand? I wonder if you could find something with a better record?
I wish I knew what was up with these. It's not like I'm banging it around, although considering it's a friggin' rock, I should be able to.
I looked online and found nothing. I may have one custom made and go 1" thick. I'll bet some of these custom countertop places that do granite can take care of me.

They should be able to help you. You might even want to check out companies that make grave markers. You can get some really think slices of granite there... and probably cheaper than the countertop people. Good luck!

I called a granite place today. The stuff they get is almost all sealed with some sort of nasty chemical when it arrives in the shop. They are going to look for raw granite for me. The standard thickness is 3cm, which is about 1 1/4 inches. That will be perfect. They can cut the grooves for me also.
