Recipe Search - RI Pizza Strips

I'm originally from Rhode Island and really missing the local food favorites - especially during this holiday season.

One of my family's favorite is what we call "pizza strips" - they're also known as "bakery pizza" and found at pretty much every Italian bakery in RI (and even some grocery stores).

Basically, it's a cheeseless pizza with a thick tomato paste-like sauce on pizza dough, about 1/2" thick with lots of olive oil. It's baked in a jelly roll pan, served cold or at room temperature and cut into 3" x 6" strips (approximately).

Does anyone have, or know where I can get the recipe for the sauce? I've looked high and low online and can't find it anywhere. It's referenced in a few places and some have attempted to recreate it, but...well...HELP!

Thanks

No, it's not rolled or anything. It's square or rectangular flat pizza without cheese, but the sauce is much different than what is on traditional pizza - it's very thick and paste-like. It has a distinct flavor though, that I'd like to duplicate at home.

I think I may email (beg) some of the bakeries we used to visit to see if they sell their sauce or are willing to give up the recipe.

They might be willing to give you at least the basic recipe. But you might have to tinker to get it just right.

My mother use to make something like that when we were kids. It was mostly made from tomato paste and not much liquid. I have no idea what else she used.

I've seen that at bakeries, but not recently.
