Just got back from mass. Gonna get going out to my friend's in about 50 minutes. Then my plan is to sleep tomorrow away.

I went to bed at 10pm and didn't wake up until 12:30. The neighborhood was quiet for a change at midnight. In the past people would bang pans, set off fireworks, but this year many weren't home.

I already dated the first few checks in my checkbook with 2008, just so I would remember. All the new calendars are up as well.

We played Wii and then watched the ball drop.

We had a small dinner party of close friends at our house.
They started to arrive right about 7:30.

We had antipasti of:

• 4 Italian cheese platter
• Assorted artisanal salumi
• Plate of imported olives and home roasted peppers
• Phyllo shells filled with fig spread and imported Gorgonzola piccante

We drank some soda, water an 1999 Barbaresco and a 2006 Pino Grigio.

Then we retired to the dining room and had:

Insalata:

• 4 lettuce salad with toasted walnuts and pine nuts and a simple drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette

Secondi:

• Osso Buco with Risotto Milanese

Dolce:

• Everybody brought a dessert - too many to name

Digestivi:

• Grappa and Lemoncello
• Coffee and Espresso

Then we sat around and talked until 11:50.
Turned on the TV and watched the ball drop, drinking Prosecco and Bellini's.
1/2 the guests left at 12:45 and the rest help with some of the clean-up.

Linda and I got into bed at about 1:30 AM. Slept until 10 AM, finished the clean-up by noon and relaxed and when to the movies at night.

Wow...Clove...That sounds GREAT! I do not drink alcohol, but find your party sounds like it had CLASS!

I was designated driver at a rowdy drinking party. I left, and came back when it was over. Never saw such a bunch of slobs. I'm ashamed I know them.

I need to find friends with more class...like Clove! How I got involved with the people I now know, I'll never figure out. I hang out by myself most of the time. Although I've been known to "toke" once in a great while, I cannot STAND drinking to excess/use of drugs. It is RAMPANT at just about every Christmas/New Years/July 4th party. That's why I rarely go, unless someone needs a driver.

Just once, I'd like to attend a party like Clove described.
