Vatican: Pope Benedict 'partial to buffalo mozzarella cheese'

Vatican City, 28 March (AKI) - Pope Benedict XVI is a big fan of buffalo mozzarella cheese, and eats it often reported Italian daily Il Messaggero on Friday.

Pope Benedict XVI reportedly likes simple dishes and often receives buffalo mozzarella cheese as a gift from bishops from the Campania region in southern Italy where the best buffalo mozzarella is produced.

The cheese is given to Benedict's policemen, who later 'discreetly' take the cheese to his apartment, Il Messaggero reported.

    religion: Pope’s favourite pasticceria revealed.

A religious website has got the scoop on Pope Benedict XVI’s favourite cake shop in Rome. According to Petrus (PETRUS - Il quotidiano online sull'Apostolato di Benedetto XVI), the pope is a patron of the Limentani pasticceria, near the Synagogue in the Jewish Ghetto, which also counts politicians Silvio Belusconi, Massimo D’Alema and Giuliano Ferrara among its customers. Owner Vilma Limentani revealed that the pope is particularly fond of her almond and cinnamon biscuits as well as ‘Jewish pizza’ (pizza ebraica), a hard cake made with candied fruits, raisins, almonds and pine nuts.
Limentani said her baked goods ended up on the pope’s table by chance when one of his doctors brought him a bag of almond and cinnamon biscuits from the bakery on a routine visit to the Vatican. Benedict sent a message complimenting Limentani on the biscuits, and since then the doctor always picks up a sweet treat for the pope every time he visits.

It's funny how people develop an interest in such mundane things about the lives of the people they admire.

I sure hope they don't come up with a reality show..."Life, with the Pope" 10pm Eastern, 9pm Central. Although, I wouldn't be surprised.

Nope. Maybe its discreet because people make a big deal out of his getting cheese. Or maybe a security thing. Or bad writing.

I sure hope they don't come up with a reality show..."Life, with the Pope" 10pm Eastern, 9pm Central.
Probably something I'd watch. I can see it now on EWTN, hosted by Raymond Arroyo.

And here we see the Pope saying mass. And here he is praying. And here meeting with foreign dignitaries.
