Rep Power: 1 | I lived on a little Japanese island in the middle of nowhere back in the early 90's, so I got to experience some pretty exotic foods. |

Rep Power: 1 | Indeed. If you would like to see a picture of the island go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:M...-87-08298.JPEG
Yes, the landing strip really does take up one complete axis of the island, it was so small that a fully loaded C-130 could barely take off and land. |

We turned the island over to the Japanese Sep 30. 1993. It was quite the experience to live on a tiny island a 1000 miles away from civilization. |

Rep Power: 4 | Marcus Island rang a bell, and I'm sure doc knows, but some history... MARCUS ISLAND STRIKE August 30 - 31, 1943 By Walter J. (Deptula) Drew, ADC, CAC, USN (Ret) The U.S.S. Essex (CV-9) departed Pearl Harbor on 22 August 1943 in TG 15.5. The next day, an impressive armada had formed west of Hawaii. The new U.S.S. Yorktown (CV-10), light carrier U.S.S. Independence (CVL-22), and four destroyers were joined by the Essex, the battleship Indiana, two cruisers, more destroyers, and a fleet oiler. This was Task Force 15 and they were headed into battle. Rear Admiral Charles A. Pownall on the Yorktown was in command. Strike on Marcus Island
Ok, not cooking related, but doc related! Couldn't help myself! How many people were stationed there doc? Looks so small.
