Me, too. I'm still ahead of the game but wonder how long that will last.

Went out to dinner last night and we were the ONLY car in the lot. Same thing happened a couple of days ago. Restaurants are really suffering because of the high gas prices. People have to cut somewhere and going out to dinner seems to be what they are cutting. I feel for the restaurant owners/workers.

I have a Toyota Tacoma Quad-Cab with a 19-gallon tank it takes over $70 to fill it up, and that's using regular.

Yesterday I just bought $40.00 worth of premium....$3.99/gallon at the one station I went to. Most places are $4.05 for premium.

A friend of mine works at a station and was telling me how hard this is on so many. One young mother, holding a baby, came in to pay for her gas and her debit card wouldn't work...no money in the account.

She started crying and was so embarassed. My friend ran the card as a credit card, which went through.

People have to make some hard choices about filling their car or feeding their families. Very, very sad.

I drive a VW Passat and it is pretty good on gas.

Really don't drive that much anymore since we are retired. I combined as many errands as possible. If I don't have more than one thing to do, I wait until I do. I've doing that for years so it wasn't an adjustment.

BB,

When I started doing cooking classes at Williams-Sonoma, we expected a class of 8 to 10, lasting 1 hour.
When the first class started, 6 months ago, we had 37 people sign up and had to break the class into 2 one hour classes, separated by 1 hour.
Now we have 2 sessions scheduled for each class and get 15 to 20 in each.
I see that people are looking for new recipes to cook at home and that reflects somewhat on what you are saying.
There is quite a bit of dialog during and after the classes about ingredient changes and cooking variations, so I know they people are thinking very directly about doing this stuff at home. I've had several inquiries about doing dinner parties too. That is all business that might have gone to restaurants.

That's true. I know I would much rather cook at home than go out. So many times I'm disappointed eating out and I can make it better and for a lot less plus the satisfaction of knowing I made it.

Well dang, 2001 Dodge truck with 40,000 because I can not afford to drive it, has a 5.9 liter. Gas they say will be over $4.00 a gallon this weekend here. I do not know what we are going to do. The only driving we do is back and forth to work, that's only 25 miles round trip, the wife drives an Intrepid. It use to be how much was the electric bill, then groceries, now gas. Will be cooking at home, the answer is obvious YES, I wonder if those people buying the gas stocks at $133. something can eat the barrels ? and what will happen to the farmers, ? I am afraid it is going to get real bad here on the home front.

The farmers are all switching to corn and making a fortune. Corn is selling for 4 to 5 times more than it was last year. It's the new cash crop.
The wheat production is down and the ethanol production is up.

I just heard a story that Heinz is looking the revise the recipe for their ketchup. The price of corn syrup has gone through the roof and they can't hold their retail price unless they can find an alternative to corn.
The ranchers use corn to feed livestock, so meat prices have been effected too.

Some of the areas in Mexico and South America where torlillas are a big food staple have really been struggling because of it too. Starvation even. I don't know who's idea it was to dip into things that effect the food supply and we shouldn't discuss it here if we do know ... but I hate to see food being used this way. There are plenty of plants we don't need within the food chain. Someone needs to find a way to use those.
