Texans get fired up at the World Championship Bar-B-Que Contest

HOUSTON RODEO | Texans get all fired up at the World Championship Bar-B-Que Contest

HOUSTON -- Walking around sprawling Reliant Park, I pass tent after tent filled with cooks wearing boots, blue jeans, big belt buckles and don't-mess-with-Texas looks on their faces.
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo -- three weeks of cowboy competitions, country music concerts, carnival rides and farm-related exhibits -- is about to take over this oil town for the better part of March. The kick off to this annual Wild West party is the World Championship Bar-B-Que Contest.

We go every year to the rodeo, but have not gone to the bar-b-que parking is horrendous and traffic getting there is something else. We have a bar-b-que contest at our local rodeo every year in East Montgomery County, it has a good turn out and no where near as crowded. At the rodeo it is just like walking in the middle of new york at lunch time, nothing but people on top of people. It is the largest indoor rodeo in the world, and we get a lot of good entertainers for the shows. Also they have food tents, and vendors with all sorts of stuff, we usually end up getting pickled garlic, and candy of some sort there. Usually this starts the end of February and runs till the 3rd week in March, was later this year than usual, but took them a long time to report on it. We went to see Allan Jackson and Kenny Chesning this year.
