Inquiry targets chef's cursing

Inquiry targets chef's cursing

Published: Saturday, June 21, 2008
SYDNEY, Australia - Volatile British master chef Gordon Ramsay played down controversy in Australia over his foul language on television, saying Friday he had no intention of changing his style.
The Australian Senate, which carried out an inquiry into Ramsay's swearing, urged television networks to upgrade the way they warn viewers of coarse material and deal with viewers' complaints.

Maybe they just shouldn't carry his show. He is who he is and that's his style, like it or not.

I thought all Englishman spoke similar bloody hell, they don't, just put the show on later in the evening and make sure the lasses and lads are in the sack. Wasn't Australia a prison for crooked old Englishman ?

I don't watch his show because I don't care for people with overinflated egos. I also can't stand power trippers who feel that they can berate people just because they feel that they are right. I have had a few issues with egotistical bosses, and I refuse to put up with their crap.

The language (curse words) I am not offended by, but just the way they are used to berate people. I think of curse words this way, at one time someone decided that these certain words were offensive, but in the end they are just words.

I don't watch him either. Too much drama.

I love his shows, and I would agree with his quote about editing. They edit out the F-bombs when the shows are broadcast in the US, why can't they do it in Australia? Too busy polishing the big boot?

I would think there would be some sort of broadcasting standards to meet for such things, here and in Australia.

Over seas seem to be a lot more slack on the values, my cousin's son lives in Germany and even in their advertisements they have naked cut out of people in showers, not partial but full exposure. There seems to be a world of moral values that are different from what we hold to standards here. In Gordon's defense, his language is not always like that. I have a DVD from him on cooking instructions that came with a cook book, never once does he cuss during that. I have watched his show on the BBS America, yes he cusses, except when he is around his children. But if you watch the other people in the program use the same language as he does. I think somebody somewhere has a dislike for Gordon, and is doing everything, they can to rattle his cage. A lot of hype is be blown out on this, and probably will continue. I still respect the man, yes he came through a very difficult childhood, his language is despicable at times, he makes his cooking look easy, his food must be out of this world, and the service probably is impeccable. For a man to have this many restaurants and Michelin stars and continue to grow there has to be something right. Just my humble opinion on this little matter, since it isn't even on our side of the world.

Maybe I'm weird, but I never understood people being offended by nudity. I remember catching my dad naked as a child and my dad didn't freak out or make a big deal about it, I wouldn't say that our values were warped, just don't see why nudity is seen as dirty or embarrassing, heck it is the way we came into this world!
