Rep Power: 3 | Never Too Old to Learn From a Child! Who knows the definition of the word zoning? Not the one that pertains to buildings, street blocks, parks or anything like that.
Today, I learned a new definition to the word! New to me, that is.
While tuoring one of the two little boys who I work with, the one who I worked with today told me that I was zoning. I was dumdfounded for a minute! He looked at me with a stern look on his face.
Then he said it again; "You're zoning." Finally, and still confused, I asked him what he meant and finally, he then said; "It means that you are in lala land."
I said; "Oh, daydreaming." He said; "Yeah. My mom tells me that at times." I told him that I never even knew that there was another meaning to the word! Then I thanked him for telling me that! I said to him; "You're a very smart little boy! You taught me something that I never knew about." He said; "Thank you."
I was so flabbergasted and in awe!! Here I am coaching him and helping him with his reading, thinking that I knew more than him, and he hit me with that! It goes to show that an adult can learn a lot from a small child!!. I thought that was so cute and I thanked him for it! Haha!! |

Rep Power: 3 | Over the years I've heard it called "zoning out."

Rep Power: 3 | I think that's what he meant to say. The coordinator said it for him, then he said; "Yeah, zoning out.
But I've always used the term; "out to lunch" or "daydreaming", or even "procratinating". Still, I never knew what the word zoning meant in that term until he told me about it. I WAS kind of lost in thought.
Who'd have ever thought that a 7-year-old knows what that means?! I didn't. Didn't even know it myself! Haha!! |

Rep Power: 3 | I think it got shorten from what people use to say to someone caught daydreaming... saying they were in another zip code zone.

Rep Power: 3 | Yeah, if he said that I was zoning out or spaced out or even lost in thought, I'd have picked up on it right away. But he caught me off guard!
Smat kid for his age!! He never ceases to amaze me!! Just when I think I know him, he comes up with something that knocks me out!!
Never underestimate the mind and power of a small child!! |

Rep Power: 2 | I have used zoning out as well.
When I worked for target "zoning" meant blocking and straightening shelves, so if you ever hear the term "zone defense" at Target, it means that the employees are to start straightening up their departments.

Ever flown on Delta?
They use the word zone for sections of their planes when boarding. Like first class is Zone 1 and coach class goes from Zone 2 and up, depending on the number of seats on a particular aircraft.
But kids can say the most surprising things, and I never expected this kid to even say think of that, let alone say it! They are also street-smart, and you never know what they'll say to you until they say it!
But nonetheless, I love the kid and it's like nothing gets past him - very little if anything. He's very smart for his age! |
