If you wanted to know the winner of the third season of Hell's Kitchen, you didn't have to watch Monday night's finale. You could've visited the gambling site bodog.com two months ago, when a surge of unusually heavy betting patterns on one chef revealed the eventual champ.
As it turns out, the legions of bettors were apparently privy to privileged information, correctly wagering that Rock Harper would be named Gordon Ramsay's latest protégé.
"This is just so big for me and my family," an emotional Harper said after being named the winner. "I just won. Thank God, I just won."
In so winning, Harper, the 30-year-old executive chef from Spotsylvania, Virginia, earned the position of head chef at the new Italian restaurant in the Green Valley Ranch Resort, Spa and Casino in Henderson, Nevada, and an annual salary of $250,000.
Harper beat out Bonnie Muirhead, a 26-year-old nanny and personal chef from Los Angeles with a spot-on palate, after a grueling final battle-of-the-sexes dinner-service challenge. Each chef had the chance to craft a dinner from menu to waiter uniforms to restaurant decor and were able to offer up their signature dish for the discerning masses: fettucine and prawns for Muirhead and a revisionist surf 'n' turf—fried chicken with crab cakes—for Harper.
