chef Kitchen Tips

Do you have a great kitchen/cooking tip?

Why not share a tip with all of us and see what others have to share.

Here's one that I do. When making roasted vegetables, I put the olive oil, herbs, spices, salt and pepper into the baking dish first. Then, I add the vegetables and use my hands to toss all the vegetables with the olive oil mixture.

It seems to coat everything evenly and into the oven it goes!

Sometimes I use my cast iron grill pan for steaks or veggies in the oven. But I kinda got that one from Alton.

Most of my best tips I learned from Alton. I would feel like I am preaching to the choir here if I gave his tips.

I know A LOT of you are Alton fans, and I do watch him, but I don't retain everything from his shows. Enjoy them but not a die-hard fan....sorry.

With that, please feel free to share his tips.

I freeze many things on a sheet pan before putting them in a bag thanks to Alton. I avoid the ice blob of stuck together food that way. Works great for burger patties too then I wrap and seal, they come out a nice individual serving and I just take as many as I need..

I use the same method for all kinds of berries....they slide into the bag and do not stick.

Love it!

I always sit around and try to think of tips, just because everyone always asks me...but im now telling them that the best tip is to find your own way in the kitchen. the tips come naturally.

When I need to pound chicken to an even thickness, I slide it into a zipper freezer bag and pound while it is inside, this helps me avoid splattering chicken juices and bits around the kitchen. I then use the zipper bag to put all of the chicken fat and trimmings in so that it can be sealed to prevent odors in the trash can.
