Chain family spots offer budget cuts, but how good are they?

Applebee's has really improved their food lately. Met someone there for lunch (their choice) and was very surprised.

Haven't been to an Outback in quite a while. It seemed to be pretty spendy for a chain and the steaks were just ok.

We usually go to local, higher-end, restaurants and get more for the $. Plus the food is all local and very fresh.

Not surprised mysellf.

I likeApplebee's and Ruby Tuesday over Outback. Outback's service has become very
low class and their meat seems tainted with tons of salt.

But every now & then, I'll go for a good top-notch steak like Fillet Mignon or a rack of babyback ribs. NY Strip and Cowboy Steak are amoung my favorites as well.

I don't go to Outback very often but the last time I was there it was absolutely fantastic, everyone at the table commented on how good the food was. Even the broccoli was cooked perfectly and not at all mushy.

I had my first steak from Ruby Tuesdays recently and it was pretty good, the broccoli was very mushy and the mashed potatoes were kinda terrible. I may order a steak there in the future but choose different sides.

If I am going to spend money on a steak it will be at this local chain called Tripps, they use aged angus beef and cook under an infrared burner giving some nice char on the edges and making the rim of fat on a strip steak a little bit crisp. This place is slightly more than the chains, but the steak is some of the best in town for this type of restaurant. Add a fantastic ceasar salad and a baked potato and you have a great meal.

Now I'm hungry for steak,
