Wilmington man competing for "best burger

Wilmington man competing for "best burger"
WWAY 3 Wilmington - 22 minutes ago A Wilmington man's cooking skills are getting him national recognition. This summer Good Morning America and the popular Chef Emiril teamed up to find the best burger recipe in the nation.

I assume they mean Emeril. You would think newspapers would check things better before the publish them.

Easy to do...spellcheck wouldn't have caught it. Not criticizing, but there is a letter missing in your second sentence...I think you meant to write 'they'. Was this a test?

Oh I know I could never work for a newspaper. But in my defense right now I have allergy pink eye REALLY bad. My vision is blurred very badly. But I am sure I will get many more misspells and I use firefox that checks it as I type. But with the internet I think if I was writing something to be published in a paper I would check it to be sure. So I know for sure I couldn't make a living at it. It would take me too long going over everything, especially if I knew I was being paid to get it right.

They did get it right later in the story though.

I see a lot of spelling errors in news articles. I sometimes wonder if the proofreading for internet publishing is less than paper publishing. FYI I know I'm terrible at spelling and grammar. Although I am starting to like it when firefox spell checks for me.

Me too. And I know it. Usually the online newspaper sites are just publishing what is being printed in the paper. But I too am amazed at what seems to be a lack of proof reading anymore in many publications. And if I can notice it when I am not so good at it myself it has to be bad. I don't mean little stuff like this, I have seen far worse. And it seems more strange for paid publications. Much of the stuff on the internet isn't paid to be written or even purchased to read. But if you are publishing a paper people are paying money for I would have thought there would be more proof reading.

Editorial: A lot of what I read in the paper about certain topics is just plain wrong. It just seems that it was written by someone with a cursory knowledge of the topic (like they watched this in a movie or read a book) and who didn't spend the time to get the facts. It irritates me, but what can you do?

I have seen that too. I am getting so I am afraid to trust the media and I think the internet has a lot to do with that. The desire to be "first" often outweighs the desire for the facts. One of the big ones was all of the Natalee Holloway coverage. We heard they had found a body a couple of times ... not true. And there had been a confession... not true.

That's why I wonder about all of what they say some of the food network stars have said off camera. I am almost to the point now where if they want me to believe they said something, I want it on tape.

Thank you. It's a little better today. Still not ready to try the contacts yet though.
