I read today that we're getting a new 175 acre SC State Farmer's Market opening April 17, 2010. Here's part of the article from The State newspaper...
Located between U.S. 321 and I-26 near Dixiana, the $85 million market will be 2 1/2 times as large as the old market. By comparison, it's the size of seven Walmart Supercenters combined.

In addition to the usual wholesale facilities, farmers' sheds and retail and greenhouse areas, the market will boast:

- A 400-seat amphitheater
- A 200-seat conference center
- A demonstration kitchen
- A large event sign and RV park to draw people off the interstate
- And a fishmonger, meat market and restaurant

The developers are also building a series of storefronts and stalls called The Porches and The Stables that rent for about the same price as stalls at the old farmers market. They would house the smallest of the vendors.

It's kind of an IKEA for collard greens, highlighting South Carolina's $34 billion agribusiness industry. Some billboards that have been erected feature cartoons by Robert Ariail, former cartoonist for The State.

The plan is to draw travelers from I-77 and I-26.

Also included in the project are a new $2 million state agriculture laboratory and conference center.

The state also is building $5.5 million in farmers' stalls, a produce shed and additional offices to feature S.C. products and promote the department's "Certified South Carolina Grown" campaign.

Martha Stewart squared off against "Food Network" star Rachael Ray, dissing her fellow television star for not being able to bake, and for being "more of an entertainer" than an actual chef.
She is scheduled to come home to Creskill, NJ, for the holidays before returning to the Peace Corps for another year of service. Her family and friends miss her terribly and want to throw her a fantastic holiday homecoming party. All they need is a little help from world-renowned entertaining expert Sandra Lee. Sandra shows them how to create a beautiful holiday celebration that honors Christina's service while embracing the food, decor and traditions that she has been without for over two years. Sandra shows the group how to take their favorite memories, photographs and stories of Christina and turn them into the tablescapes, ornaments, food and gifts that will make this a party wrapped in the true meaning of the holidays.
Nestle — which sells nearly all the canned pumpkin in the U.S. — says poor weather hurt its harvest, creating a potential shortage of its Libby's pumpkin pie products through the holidays.

In a statement to customers this week, Nestle said heavy rains made it nearly impossible to pick its pumpkins during this year's harvest.

The longer the pumpkins sit in the muddy fields, the more they deteriorate. As a result, Nestle said this week that it would not pack any more pumpkins this year, which means it may be hard to find its canned pumpkin and pumpkin pie filling product until next year's harvest.

"Mother nature had other plans for us," the company said in an open apology to customers online.
