A Trip to the Bookstore

We had some time to kill this afternoon so we walked around Borders. I can't believe how many food books they had. I saw books by Morimoto, Alton Brown, Sandra Lee, and many other food network personalities.

Amusingly though as I looked through I saw more and more books by people who don't have a specific show on food network, but who I recognized as having been featured on one show or another.

It was actually pretty cool.

The Food Network has certainly opened up a great market and really does help you learn about how some ingredients are used you might not be familiar with. I have all of the Alton books and a few Emeril ones. I have learned a lot from them.

My favorite cookbook is the one I received at our wedding shower in 1973. The classic "Betty Crocker Cookbook".

I have a whole cabinet filled with cookbooks on every subject but I still refer back to my favorite.

I catered a party for my sister last year and made all the dishes from the 70's. It was so much fun as many of the people at the party weren't even born yet. They were in awe of some of the classics that they had never had or heard of.

I love retro food!

I like my southern living cookbook, but many of the dishes aren't something I would fix every day or I would weigh 800 lbs. Steven Raichlen's grilling books are great too.
