Smile Symon does win - as forecasted

I just checked the FTV website a saw that Symon did win this contest.
My "inside" information has now been proven to be correct.

I wonder what would have happened is Flay, Batali, Morimotto and Cora had been put through this type of test instead of being "awarded" their positions.
Same said for the original Japanese Iron Chefs, also awarded their positions.

TV programming at it's best (or worst - depending on your view)

Maybe they should let Besh take on one of the others and see how he does. He did beat Batali when he was on outside this competition.

You know what's interesting, I can check to see what search terms are bringing people to this site. The only person in my top 25 hits this month from the competition is Chef Besh. Not a single other chef from next star made the top 25 ... not even Symon. And Besh made the list twice with 2 different phrases being searched that include his name.

Man...I'm disappointed. Besh would have been MY choice. I don't know anything about "fixing", but what I, myself, would have chosen, are THREE men and THREE women to even things out.

She's drop-dead gorgeous, and all, but Cat Cora cannot be the ONLY woman Iron Chef. It just ain't FAIR! Traci Des Jardins ROCKS! She beat Mario Batali in one Iron Chef show! That ain't no simple thang!

Jill Davie is another AWESOME chef, that IMO, could keep up with ANY of 'em!

Honestly, Besh was a shoe-in, but heck, what do I know? Maybe it's a good thing I'm not picking the line-up. LOL!

All the judges were no older than mid 30s, Jeffrey was not a judge, you tell me how the young guy got in. Hmmmmm ~ because Besh is a different style of everything from Simon. The judging wasn't balanced, that's how it's easy to say FIX. At least on the Next Food Network Star, the judges rotate each week. On NIC, they didn't. Had they it might have been more fair.

I agree with you, Callisto. Really, the judging was just three people in the food business.

On Iron Chef they have different judges all the time. And, why didn't they have any of those judges on the panel?

I don't know if it was 'fixed' but I do think the outcome would have been different had they rotated the judges and had a variety of ages. Taste buds do change as we mature. It just didn't seem fair.

...and Batali has the best record (in numbers and in percentage) of all the Iron Chefs.

Doug,

Your point about equal men and women (in both the contestants and the actual Iron Chefs) is an interesting one.
The industry - professional cooking - is one that has been and continues to be (although it is changing little by little) a male dominated profession.
The current ratio of the Iron Chefs' is about right, based on demographics.

If the young guy to which you are referring is Michael Ruhlman, he's 43, a trained chef and a very well published food writer.

If you mean Andrew Knowlton, he is 32. He has been a judge on several Iron Chef contests, has worked in resaurants and gone to cooking school.

I don't disagree that there may have been a pre-selected winner, but don't blame the judges completely.

Read Rulhman's blog.
