2008 FN Daytime

Oh boy...did anyone catch the commercial for the upcoming 2008 daytime lineup on FN?

Michael, Emeril...not even mentioned...the only male show is Tyler!

And the commercial says they are giving us our 'favorites'...I don't think so. (IMO)

FN is recognizing that their nighttime line up is the key. More people work now than ever before so their nighttime is what counts. Emeril will still have his nighttime show. And Michael who?

I would hate to lose Emeril and Michael Chiarello during the day. Those are MY favorites.

Me too! There are a lot of people who watch during the day. When I was working I'd come home from lunch to watch a show. I especially like Ina in the afternoon. I know she is still going to be on during the day, but Michael and Emeril weren't mentioned.
Let's see they mentioned Ingrid, Ellie, Rachael, Paula and Robin. Out of all of them, I enjoy Ellie and sometimes Paula.

Honestly, I'd like to see Michael, Tyler, Guy, Chef Besh (oops, not on yet, but I'd make time to watch him) and Emeril during the day. I just prefer watching the men cook. Think that is because my first cooking show was "Creative Cookery" which was on in Chicago in the mid-1950's. Featured Francoise Pope and his son, Bob....use to watch it before I'd go to kindergarten in the afternoon. Learned a lot about cooking!

I think most women prefer the men, there is a reason behind what we as humans are attracted to. And I would wager to bet most daytime viewers are women. The food network is really messing up if all they put on are stick figure women who are trying to convince us they make good food when they don't even look like they eat.

I guess I'm the only full time worker here on this forum. I also participate in Nielsen and can tell you, daytime is not the desired demographic. Did you know repeats of ER and Charmed beat all but network television during the day. Maybe they didn't want to waste money on talent during the day since daytime television is the current worst time to spend money. The "top rated" soap only get 4.1 and it is #1 in its slot. More women work outside the home than stay at home now. That's the demo they need, the nighttime viewers.

But if you are going to get any viewers at all you would think it would be best to target the people who would be watching no matter how few. I would think they want to win their viewing habits if that's all there is out there. That would seem to be stay at home moms or other child care providers which tend for the most part to be women. Either that or not have daytime programming at all.

That's not how it works. They have to have something on. Trick is, they just put the bare minimum on because they know you'll still watch over something like Charmed or ER. It's a trickle down theory. Network soaps, prime time repeats, repeat food network/DIY/Fine Living type shows, news programs. The age of the DVR is here, networks have to play the game but also remember where the money is.

Well right now their night time stuff makes them look more like the travel network than the food network. Currently I watch much more during the day than I do at night, because night is when I have competition for the remote.

From the sounds of it, you don't fall into typical American demographics. Most two parent and children families have more than one television, three is average for a two parent family with one or more children. If you have competition for the remote, then you aren't average. Do you have a DVR?
