Ok, here is one from me. I would like to see a show on cooking for our pets. I know this wouldn't be on everyone's list, but with todays pet food problems, this could be very beneficial.
Of course, it would be under the watchful eye of veterinarians to be sure the food is balanced and healthy, but I can see this as a special or a once a week show.
In fact, this was my suggestion to the Food Network previously, but never heard anything back. That didn't surprise me, but hey, I get to share with all of you!
A show aimed at cooking for your children. Good, healthy, meals that they would enjoy. Not the same old mac and cheese, hot dogs, but chicken dishes (that aren't fried), roasts with fun veggies, things that are creative and appealing and nutritious.
It could also feature childen helping in the kitchen. I know they have the 'cooking with your kids' week, but this would be more than that. The children could even help with the meal planning, shopping and preparing the food.
I would like to see a show where the host takes you to the market/bakery/deli and tells you the differences between some items. Alton does this some, but make it so you learn about different cuts of meat, types of cheeses and breads, stocks vs broth, types of flour, wines .. the list could go on forever.
Have you ever seen the movie Mr. Mom where he goes grocery shopping and asks for ham, she starts listing all the different kinds so he changes to cheese, which of course there are even more types of.
Have them explain what they buy and why it's best for a certain recipe or meal. Then have them show what they make with the product of the day.
Isilzha, I agree, Robert is one chef we need to see more of. I'd like to see him be an Iron Chef...officially, that is. The man has what it takes.
Now...as far as what I'd like to see...hmmm
Thai cooking. I don't know of any chefs on TV that do that on a regular basis. That kind of show would introduce us to the myriad of curries, and explain unusual items like KAFFIR LIME LEAVES, NAM PLA, and the various styles of cooking in the Thai fashion.
Real Mexican cooking. Bayless would be a good one. He'd take us through the creation of TAMALES, ENCHILADAS, CARNE GUISADA, and MENUDO.
Filipino cuisine. Things like ADOBO, PANCIT and LUMPIA (with its unique dipping sauce) come to mind...
Yes, Isilzha, Ming is just ONE example. Another would be Martin Yan...one of my FAVORITE Asian chefs. Also, Wok with Yan starring Stephen Yan. The show was first produced in Vancouver, Canada by the CBC from 1980 to 1982. Ended up on PBS, here in the states.
I really liked Wok with Yan, as Stephen would wear a different apron every episode with a "Wok pun" lettered on it.
"Wok Goes Up Must Come Down" "You Are Wok You Eat" "Wok Like a Man"
There are just a few examples...LOL!
Speaking of ethnic shows...what ever happened to those two brilliant black ladies...they used to make soul food and other wonderful African or Creole delights...in fact...if I remember correctly, one lady had real short reddish hair...and the other was a rather large lady. I've missed seeing that show for a long time...no repeats anywhere I've seen.
Two Fat Ladies...one of my all-time faves...gone. One lady died, and that spelled the end of one of the funniest and most enjoyable shows on Food Network. That really saddened me. I wonder if a box set will ever be released on "Two Fat Ladies"?
