I think younger viewers liked it. But that's not the greatest base of people who tune in. I think maybe the Food Network is starting to realize that. At least I hope so, maybe they will return to their base.
I'm about their age and I didn't like the show either. I felt the show was too much about the guys themselves, who always seemed to be fighting, and not enough about the food. I'd enjoy a program about someone doing catering though and liked that show Giada had where she gave us a view of backstage at an catered event.
I watched all five eps but wasn't completely blown away by them. FN didn't offer any of their recipes but on the one show where they made their 'famous' mac and cheese, they gave the measurements and I wrote them down. That had to be the absolute worst mac and cheese I've ever eaten. It started out with 'cook the elbow mac for only 3 minutes'. Even with all the other ingredients added and the length of cooking, they still turned out like hard little pieces of uncooked macaroni. I'll stick to my own perfected recipe.
Now this is just my own opinion but the show they should be canning is the one with Ingrid Hoffman. After watching only a handful of them, I found her so annoying that I literally couldn't watch her anymore. But I'm sure they'll keep her because Latino cuisine is very popular now. I just wish they'd get a host who's a lot less annoying to listen to.
When I first saw the Promos for 2DC, I thought it might be interesting. So, being the Food Network addict I am, I gave it few tries. I just wasn't impressed at all. Jon (the guy without the glasses), came across as very nervous and really lacked in charisma. He seemed arrogant and full of himself. Vinny was a bit better, but still seemed uncomfortable. The sous chefs were so boring, they just blended into the woodwork. I thought it was going to be a Catering version of "Ace of Cakes" (which I assume, FN was trying to go for), but 2DC was frankly, boring.
I agree also with bluejeanz' comment about how there were no Food Network.com recipe tie-ins.
A real dump, overall.
