Rep Power: 2 | RIP Everyday Italian? FN Dish's Adam Roberts caught up with Giada De Laurentiis over the weekend where she revealed that production on Everyday Italian has ended.
Don't fret, GDL-lovers. She's working on a new cooking show. I'm going to start a new show. We actually finished Everyday Italian and we're going to start a new cooking show for me... in June. [...] It's still going to be very similar to Everyday Italian, just a little more modern, a little more me now that I have a little one coming. I think it's a time for a little bit of a life change."
I'm excited that Giada's getting to branch out a bit. I've read in several interviews that her love of food extends into many other varieties of cuisine other than Italian, so I'm glad she'll be able to show that.
As it is, Everyday Italian as of late has pretty much branched away from strictly Italian recipes. G will make a cookie or salad or roast and throw some prosciutto or amaretti cookies on it and make it "Italian."
So what kind of food do you think Giada should cook? More... |

Rep Power: 2 | Something other than Italian would be good. I remember on her Chefography she talked about having to go to her mother and aunts for ideas for recipes. Maybe the well ran dry.
I hope the new show isn't going to be celebrity interviews or "human interest" as she does on the Today Show. Or another travel show where we get to watch her frolicking in the sea. Cooking, just cooking, would be perfect. |

Rep Power: 10 | With Mario, Giada and Michael I think they have covered pretty much every corner of Italy and dug up Italian recipes from every inch of the boot. I know Italian cooking is popular, I love it too, but they have several personalities specifically for Italian cooking. None for Mexican or Asian which are 2 other cooking styles very popular here in the US.
Giada was never one of my favorites, but I do think after a while some stars become tiresome because their style is extremely predictable. She was the crunchy, creamy gal, and it seemed like everything was one or the other or both.
I don't mind them ending shows, I just wish they would take a new direction with the chef and give them a different focus. Or at least find new genuine chefs instead of becoming the travel channel. But some are so limited in their style it would be hard to go a different way with them, Emeril is one that could do pretty much any style of cooking. |

Rep Power: 10 | Suzie, I agree. Everything 'has a good crunch' or is 'creamy'...they all seem to have their trademark remarks.
Giada is ok but between her and Rachael they have pretty much covered the world of food and resorts. What's left?

All of Italy covered?
Perish that thought.
There are more traditional Italian dishes covering the boot than FTV has ever shown.
There are more Italian chefs currently creating new dishes all the time. There is an entire "spa" food culture emerging throughout Italy as we speak.
The Slow Food Movement, born in Italy, is growing all over that country
and the world.
There is much more to Italian food than Milan, Venice, Florence and Rome.
There are 1,000's of small towns and villages and the artisans throughout these places are never running out of ideas and new ways to use their old ideas and products.
FTV is moving on because it is their nature to keep looking for the next formula to attract the 18 - 36'rs.

Rep Power: 10 | That was Mario's gig for a while, and many of his dishes are traditional, American taste doesn't seem to favor all of that style however. So maybe the ratings are reflective of that, and the network will go with what makes them the money. |

Rep Power: 10 | My comments about "What's left?" had to do with their travel shows, not cooking shows. I'm always creating new dishes and those possibilities are endless.
I'm just bored with all the shows where they are traveling and eating.

Rep Power: 2 | I'm Italian but don't particularly care for Italian cuisine, and especially Mario's (sorry Mario-lovers). Giada's was more Americanized. You knew that because every time her mom or aunt were on they'd shudder at the little changes that Giada'd make. So, for me, I'm not that broken up about E.I. biting the dust. I wasn't a big fan of "Behind the Bash" either so whatever it is they're planning for her, I hope it's not another clone of even more (as Berry said) 'traveling and eating' shows. As far as RR, I think she pretty much hit the bottom of the barrel when it comes to writing new recipes, considering some of the slop she cooks on her shows now. How many times do you need to say "Eeeuuuwww!" before you reach for the remote? Her annoying personality and big mouth weren't the only reasons I quit watching her show(s).

Rep Power: 10 | I have noticed Rachael going to a lot more prepackaged and frozen already cooked items, like frozen fried fish and things like that. Sandra Lee is going to have to beat her off her turf if she keeps it up. |
