Speaking With Renaissance Man Danny Boome

Earlier this week I got a call from Food Network's latest star, the British charmer and self-proclaimed renaissance man, Danny Boome. Danny's new show, The Rescue Chef, debuts tomorrow at noon and I'll be watching. The show pairs Danny with home cooks who are desperate to overcome culinary obstacles. And according to Danny, there is no problem he can't solve, no dish he can't make. To see what he had to say when we spoke over the phone, read more.
Danny became interested in cooking while working as a manny — a male nanny — in Switzerland. Before leaping across the pond, he had a successful television career in the UK. He points out that cooking is not rocket science and enjoys providing home cooks with the basic techniques needed to build culinary confidence. Here's what he had to say:
PartySugar: What's it like dealing with people who aren't used to the camera?
Danny Boome:
Surprisingly the people become very comfortable. They forget the cameras are there and are really more interested in the recipes. They want to learn how to deal with their culinary faux pas so I help them look at the language of cooking and break it down.

He's funny and cute, seems to explain how to do things well. I like him so far.

Rescue Chef

I know there's an old thread about this new show but I don't have the time to hunt for it.

Is anyone watching it? This one, like Sunny's show, I gave it a few eps as well and don't care for it. I don't find the guy very interesting. He's also annoying at times. He's a shorter version of Jamie but without the lisp.

Oh, he has the lisp too, just not quite as bad as Jamie's. I've been watching the show and it is okay. The women he rescues frequently seem to play dumb for the camera and that is a bit annoying. But he doesn't clutter up the cooking with a lot of "My mama did this" or "my grandmama did that" which so many of the shows seem to think is important these days. I like his personality and he's a good teacher.

Why are all the women he's helping thin and beautiful? Does it mean that if you are this imagine, you have problems cooking?

There must be some 'real' people out there that have difficulties in the kitchen. Seems too staged for me like the women were all hired from an agency.

And men, certainly there are lots of men who need help cooking. Tyler often visited guys and married couples. Maybe Danny will too...eventually.

Wow...that is so true!! I actually like Boome and I could enjoy his show a lot more if his 'victims' didn't always seem to come across as brainless, flirty bimbettes. But I'm convinced more and more that that is a scripted, planned component of the show. More proof that unscripted, reality television is, in fact, not. When Tyler did Food 911 it was the same thing. Beautiful, overly helpless women. And have you seen Take Home Chef w/Curtis Stone (TLC)? Same thing- and they always go upstairs and change into something sexier when they get home!!

I think they are going with the description "non fiction" on the food network instead of "reality" so maybe that's why.
