What Women Watch: Cable Nets Offer Fresh Slice of Reality

What Women Watch: Cable Nets Offer Fresh Slice of Reality
Reality shows are a staple of virtually all of the major cable television outlets that target women, including Lifetime, Oxygen, WE, Bravo, Style Network and Food Network. “Style Network is really providing a mix of shows that fall into ...

Well it seems according to the article I can blame the women for the change on the Foodnetwork, talk about equality, not here guess they figure women have more time to watch reality shows, since they are gearing the whole network towards that. Guess all us men are suppose to do is watch sports ? I am all for equal rights for everybody but seems like no matter what we do, they try to separate us and keep us a bay with each other. But like everything else I have a right not to buy the sponsors products, which I think I will pay a little more attention to who is sponsoring these shows and start writing them letters complaining about the programming they are supporting. like it would do a lot of good, since I seem to be in the minority now. Seems like the more I hear the less I really want to know, at least that way I could plead ignorant.

I don't like the reality shows. Wonder what women they are asking? Or if they just assume.

I do like the kinds of reality shows on FN and HGTV. I love Clean House which I started watching after BerryBaby mentioned it in a post. I don't watch those best dancer, best singer, who can eat the most bugs kind of reality shows though. Somehow I think they are less "real" than a cooking or design show.

Let's see if they are right in their assumptions....

1. The core fan of Food Network is likely to be a woman in her mid-40s. Not me

2. She’s slightly more upscale than average. I am not sure what they mean by this. But I am not on the couch in a feather boa eating bon bons. But for the area we live in we do better than most.

3. We’re in the top five delivering women in households with incomes of $75,000 or more. Close, for me to fit that one.

4. She’s upscale, Again???

5. well educated, Not me, I graduated High School worked for a while and got married, worked a while longer... no college. Now a stay at home mom trying to make some extra money on the web.

6. in her early 40s, okay back up the page a bit we were in our mid 40's, but I am late 30's right now ... for a few more months anyway.

7. works, most everyone works at something, but unless you count the web I am a stay at home mom.

8. has kids and is looking for meal solutions. I have kids, but I am not looking for a quick fix. I sometimes start as early as the night before on a meal for dinner the next day. I want a chef ... a REAL chef to give me tips on how to make it fabulous.

9. She has the resources to travel and enjoys eating out in restaurants. I do travel with my husband more often than most because he has 2 jobs that require it, civilian and part time military. And I do like to eat at restaurants.

10. She is also a food fan. Well they got me there, but being the FOOD network that one seems a little obvious.

That might have been me I like HGTV too and I watch clean house, but I don't consider that reality. It's not my reality anyway.

1. The core fan of Food Network is likely to be a woman in her mid-40s. Nope

2. She’s slightly more upscale than average. Nope

3. We’re in the top five delivering women in households with incomes of $75,000 or more. Nope

4. She’s upscale, see above

5. well educated, finally, yes

6. in her early 40s, Nope

7. works, Of course, everyone works! But I guessing they mean outside of the home

8. has kids and is looking for meal solutions. No kids. Not looking for "quick" meals.

9. She has the resources to travel and enjoys eating out in restaurants. I'll eat out because I have to. I'd prefer to cook at home because my stuff is usually better.

10. She is also a food fan. I would say I'm more of a cooking fan. I love to cook and have been doing since I was a kid. That's why I prefer cooking shows like Good Eats over 30 Minute Meals, I want to learn ABOUT cooking and the process.

The description of the "core viewer" sounds a lot like a former boss I had. She claimed that she to love to cook but most of her dishes were semi-homemade (before that show existed on FN).

Good Eats is the best at helping people learn how to do things better. I consider Alton a chef, even if he doesn't think he is one.

Alton, is probably more of a chef than some chef's not many can tell you why a food cooks the way it does, most just know it cooks( watch hells kitchen, they all need some training). I like the science of cooking, so I know why is a medium rare steak tender when a medium well is tough on most cuts of meat, but not all. To me this is what Alton tells us. I also need the chef to tell me how to prepare a certain dish a certain way to make it stand out and have a certain flavor, and that is what the trained chef taught me.

. The core fan of Food Network is likely to be a woman in her mid-40s.not

2. She’s slightly more upscale than average.see above not, upscale a little

3. We’re in the top five delivering women in households with incomes of $75,000 or more. my wife don't make $75,000.00

4.She’s upscale, well she married me

5. well educated, well hmmmmm more well lived

6. in her early 40s, not

7. works, have to to support our life style.

8. has kids and is looking for meal solutions. all grown, do not need fast solutions, just more recipes

9. She has the resources to travel and enjoys eating out in restaurants.yes we do travel but mostly cruises now, cheaper and they usually have good food.

10. She is also a food fan. not a she and was a fan, till they cut me out.
