KITCHEN CALL: Dads at home at the range

KITCHEN CALL: Dads at home at the range

By Linda Bassett

Gloucester -
Men are watching cooking on television. This is not headline news as far as I know, but a slowly growing trend.
Yes, guys like to cook at home. Especially if the cooking employs a huge fire and sharp knives. But more and more men are moving the outdoor grilling habit indoors. And that’s been noted by the big food channel as well as other cable outlets that have added a food show or two to their listings.

Maybe it's too early in the morning for me to read this article but I found it to be sexist.

First, this writer implies only the shows with female hosts are on in the daytime... hmmm

Last time I checked, Essence of Emeril, Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello, Boy meets grill (Bobby Flay) and Tyler's Ultimate were all on in the day as well as the ones mentioned hosted by women.

I don't see the primetime line up as necessarily for guys but for people that don't like watching instructional cooking programs. Other than Good Eats, all the evening shows on FN are about travel or competitions.

I'm a gal, I LOVE Good Eats and ICA... what does that say about me? :icon_confused:

Okay I am at a loss, where has this women been? does she think that only women cook in the kitchen ? and men grill ? and it takes drills, saws, fast cars, spicy food, sexy women , and travel shows to have them watch food network ? and she teaches at a community college class on American regional and international cooking. I wonder which network she is watching ? because she mentions Glutton for Punishment and that is on in Canada Food Network television. I agree the article seems to be very sexist, but I am trying to figure out what she meant by Micheal being gender neutral ?

She must not get the same shows on her TV that we do?

I think she meant that Michael appeals to both males and females the same.

Didn't notice when it was written...doesn't matter, though, she's way off with her info.
