Maybe it's a very natural ability for him. I doubt he would be as successful had he chose the music. Must have been his calling to be a chef, seems like where he is supposed to be.
Just looking at the NEC website, they offer only Orchestral Percussion. While some Conservatories do offer a jazz program it doesn't really cross over into the orchestral program. I guess Emeril wanted to play with the BSO. Someone who plays jazz music or pop music wouldn't be playing classical music and vice versa. They each require their own set of disciplines.
Those photos are funny! Emeril rocking out just doesn't seem right.
Speaking of Liberace, I met him in 1972 and he was probably the most charming, polite, celebrity I have ever met. Very gracious...what a showman he was! He invited me, my mom and dad and little sister backstage after his show.
