Whole premade chicken in both places I've lived is very inexpensive. Like $4 each. It's cheaper than going to KFC and buying chicken breasts and wings.

Depending on the size they are 5 to 7 dollars here, usually 4.99 or 6.99. But a whole chicken is about 2 to 2.50 if you roasted it yourself, but you don't get that nice rotisserie flavor then. You are paying for the convenience of not having to do a lot to put the meal together. For some people that's worth it.

Costco and the grocery store pre-roasted chickens run about $7.99 in the Portland area. Not that inexpensive, but a real time-saver for those that don't have time to roast a chicken.

isilzha is in the Chicago area. I bet they are more pricey there too. Everything is. You can really learn a lot about the cost of things in other areas by watching the housing prices on HGTV.

Houses here are still unaffected and prices are still high. Both Portland and Seattle have been untouched by the housing decline.

I was just noticing the population sign to our city today. When we moved here in 1984 there were only 9,400 people. Now, we are over 25,000 and no where else to build. All the housing land has been developed. Still some land for commercial buildings, but no where for people to live!

At Publix, in South Florida, I just paid $3.99 for a lemon pepper roasted whole chicken. That's unusual...it's usually about 6 bucks, but...'tis the season! LOL!

However, some darn LAME looking artichokes are going for $2.50 EACH! They're partly open, dry and GRAY! What the hell happened to the beautiful, round, tightly closed beauties we had two years ago? Did the bottom fall out of the artichoke market?

I expect prices to rise on certain things, but that chicken was a DEAL! Shoulda bought TWO! LOL!

Sandra Lee has a fan forum with over a thousand members. Maybe I could contact the person that runs it and see if we can get enough support for her to start her a forum.

But I never go to KFC, buy the chicken and then rip it apart to make something else. It just seems more expensive to me. Like one time I saw her buy a cheesecake, take it apart and make little cheesecakes out of it. I think a lot of the stuff she does is neat, I guess I just don't see it as practical.

My question:

If SO many people DISLIKE her so much, then WHY DID FOOD NETWORK JUST RENEW HER SHOW????

Rachael seems to be at the bottom of the popularity in these forums, and LOOK how successful SHE is! Ritz Crackers gives her even MORE exposure! That raucous, forced little giggle of hers, REALLY gets on my nerves! I just saw her ORANGE cookware at Linens & Things yesterday...man...I sure am glad I got my All Clad/Emeril pans!

Another question...does anyone here LIKE Sandra Lee and Semi-Homemade?

My 2 cents:

First, Sandra Lee. I think the reason her contract was renewed is she fits the mold of the new direction of the Food Network. They seem to more about making meals quickly (not that there's anything wrong with that) and food as entertainment than actually helping people to learn how to cook. Shows like Semi-homemade don't appeal to me because of the amount of preprocessed stuff put in the final dish. Or I can make the same thing from scratch that will taste a whole lot better. Using short cuts is one thing, but the concept behind Semi-homemade is lost on me.
Plus, I find Sandra Lee annoying and she makes too many cocktails! I hear a lot of guys saying about how sexy she is. I'm a gal, I don't get it. So if that's part of her appeal, that's also lost on me.

Next, Rachael Ray. Besides being overly perky and annoying with her abbreviations and made up sayings, some of the things she does are just wrong! I gave her a chance (back before she was on every Ritz cracker box in the free world) but when I started noticing I had more culinary knowledge than she did, I couldn't watch anymore.

I think Food Network is shifting away from the teach me about making food and cooking role to the let's throw together a bunch or prepackaged things together and call it a meal.
Of course, this is rant coming from a person who's willing to make involved Alton Brown recipes on a regular basis, so I'm probably in the minority.

I don't think you are in the minority. At least not here. I cook and my wife cooks. If we wanted to eat pre-made crap when we got home from work we would stop at the Drive-Thru. Speaking as a guy: Sandra Lee is very pretty but if she says "Tablescape" one more time....
