He had a music scholarship to go to school for that and turned it down to go to culinary school. I think maybe he made the right choice.

I find it a bit odd actually. Just to get into a Conservatory, and the New England Conservatory is a very, very good one, it takes extreme dedication, beginning to learn one's instrument at an early age and practicing to the point of not doing much else. To get offered a scholarship would require all that x10. I thought Emeril was spending all his time cooking in restaurants when he was a kid. I wonder how he ever found the time to practice.
