Rep Power: 1 | I've been trying to find a place that sells local produce. My cousin once told me a while back that there were farms outside of town where you can go buy fresh produce but I haven't found them yet. |

Rep Power: 2 | We have a large market in Houston, somewhere off of the 610 loop. I heard it was a little pricey, but it looked large. I would like to go there some Saturday morning, just to check them out. They had it on the news because of the jalapeņos.

Rep Power: 10 | We have a farmers market on the east end of town here. I go sometimes but it's not as close as the Kroger I shop at most often. They get some of their things from the same place though. There is a directory for our state online. Some of you might have something similar for your state. If you find it feel free to post it. It might help people find their local farms that sell to the public. Here's ours, Gritts is where most of the things in my area comes from .... West Virginia Farmers Market Association |

Rep Power: 10 | You would all love all the markets and farms out here. Every city has either a mid-week or weekend Farmer's Market. Plus, we have lots and lots of farms within minutes of our house. It's a fresh produce paradise.

Rep Power: 0 | Hi, I'm new here. I was reading this thread and thought I'd join and share some information I stumbled on earlier this year. There's a website, localharvest.org, that lists farmer's markets, CSA's etc. all over the U.S. My family and I joined a local CSA, (community supported agriculture), back in the spring and we just love it! All that yummy fresh produce plus meat and farm fresh eggs.
Anyway, I just thought I'd share the website since a few of you expressed interest in finding local farmer's markets. |

Eating local is nothing new here. People in these parts have been doing it for generations. Here on Edisto and some of the neighboring islands like Wadmalaw, James and John, there are acres and acres of large family-owned farms and plantations. And, there are loads of farm markets and farm stand here too... I've got three near my house that are less than 5 minutes away. One of these markets even carries local-made bake goods and jams and jellies. Also, we have locally harvested seafood. You can either catch your own (which we do) or you can purchase at one of several family-owned markets or buy straight from the boats down at the docks. Also, close by, is a local butcher where you can pick up local-grown meats like beef, pork, chicken, etc as well as sausage, smoked bacon, liver pudding. They even (in season) will have venison, duck, wild turkey, wild boar, goat and even raccoon. |
