You can call it the Ted Allen Rule, though it could also be the Carson Kressley Rule or the Thom Filicia Rule: the best qualification for being a reality host or judge is having been a reality host or judge, especially if you’re gay. At the moment Mr. Allen is the most ubiquitous of the “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” alumni: having just finished his second season as a full-time judge on “Top Chef,” he has segued directly into hosting a new magazine show, “Food Detectives,” which began last week on the Food Network.
