Rep Power: 10 | I have a friend that can't watch Paula because he says she sounds exactly like his ex wife. WV is known for some very different accents too. You never know, if you have one parent from one part and one from another you could pick up a combination of the 2. I don't think you could rule on the authenticity how an individual speaks without knowing and hearing everyone they learned from since birth. Parents ... grandparents... |

Rep Power: 3 | Isn't Paula from Savannah? I've heard, not that I know this for a fact, the coastal GA accent is different from the inland GA accent.
I do find her accent over the top in the more recent shows. I think it has become her schitk and she tends to milk it. |

She does enhance her accent for Paula's Party, but the episodes of her other two shows (that I've watched) she doesn't do it. I think the other day she only used "y'all" twice. She wasn't the loud, over the top person you see on Paula's Party. That show is the worst thing to have happen to her and her career - it has made her a laughing stock. She'd be a lot better off if that show was just taken off the air. Seeing her on Paula's Home Cooking and then on Paula's Party is like watching the GA Jekyll and Hyde - two different people. |

Rep Power: 10 | I don't think she's faking it though, I think she just uses the words she's known for more often that she probably would normally. Some people get a kick out of that when they go to see someone. I am not sure why, it always puzzled me when people got so excited over Emeril saying BAM, I have seen people even ask him to do it like there is some huge thrill they get from it. I think it's cute and it's a fun part of his persona but I would leave it up to him as to when he did it.
Some people just like it though, so I am sure she is playing to the crowd. |

Rep Power: 3 | I don't think she's faking either. I just think she's playing up the accent she has.
But I don't understand the whole BAM thing or the clapping for putting garlic in a dish? |

Rep Power: 10 | Me either, and I love Emeril. I guess I like him for more than that. |

I don't know if they use them for Emeril, but maybe that counts for clapping for the "bams" and the garlic. Who knows... |

He's got a spice out called Baby Bam.
It's a mild spice without the heat for the kids to use when they want to cook, or for anyone who does not like the heat of the original.
I sometimes kind of worry though, when he shouts "BAM!!! BAM!!" when he shakes his spice on some of the food, because who knows if he's not accfidently spitting on the plate or bowl of food when he does that?!! Haha!! |

I think that's why a prefer the "Essence of Emeril" to "Emeril Live"... no clapping for garlic or 50 million BAMs! |
