Food fads have been happening through out the centuries. I remember things like the Swedish Meatballs, and Fondue's, yes I participated in both. We had Swedish meatballs at the wedding receptions in the 70's and did Fondue at the card parties. What do you remember and did you participate in any of the fads, do you still have your fondue set hid away ?

Hmm, I don't really remember any. And I do not have a fondue set. We had one of those sandwich griddles. that kind of pinch the edges to seal them while it grills. Sort of like a waffle iron design. I have a pannini press. Maybe that is the current fad.
I remember in the '80s when the world discovered salsa. All of a sudden salsa was everywhere and in everything.
It looks like southwest, texmex and mexican style food are a current fad. Just look at how many of these type restaurants have popped up. You have Moe's, Chipotle, Qdoba, SalsaRita's, Bajafresh etc... You also see lots of this type of food popping up on menus of other restaurants. I think that it fits well in the trend for fresh tasty foods.

Sushi - remember when "Claire" in the Breakfast Club broke out her Sushi lunch bento box - we were all stymied? That was the early 80's and now sushi is a part of life (not for me, but for everyone else it seems.) Personally, I despise avocado and cucumber, so sushi is always out for me.
Oh and fondue made a comeback in the early 2000's - lots of restaurants popping up with fondue pots in the middle of the table - The Melting Pot comes to mind.
I just inherited my mom's flame-red fondue pot - I am armed and ready to dip!
I have a small fondue set that I bought at BB&B two years ago. I don't make fondue but use it for other hot appetizers.
Guess the fads of the 50's that I recall...Fizzies, Tang, Jello, everything made with Campbell's soup...dinner usually had cream of mushroom or celery hidden somewhere, Hostess anything, Oscar Mayer weiners (Weinermobile was HUGE with Little Oscar himself driving it), Good Humors.
As time went on, fondue, quiche, stuffed mushrooms, taco dip, little weiners wrapped in refrigerated dough, little cocktail dogs with grape jelly and catsup melted together and served hot,
deviled eggs.
