Sliders slip easily into party mode

Sliders slip easily into party mode
Try tuna or black bean burgers
By Margaret Sheridan
Special to the Tribune
October 21, 2009

Margie Irr and husband Frank Huerta of Chicago hosted an impromptu slider party recently at their kitchen picnic table. In doing so, Irr, a sales rep for a printing company, became a diplomat.

"With sliders, you make everyone happy," she said.

The appeal to these mini sandwiches? "Variety. A little taste of this, a little of that. It's fun." Their bite size also is perfect for dieters and grazers.

And fuss-free. In 45 minutes, Irr made two variations: tuna and black bean. Pan-fried, the sliders were served on mini-dinner rolls she found at the supermarket deli.

It wasn't one of the top 10 worst dining trends in the other thread, but sliders were mentioned in the intro as being one of the stupid tends by the chef they interviewed. What do you guys think?

I like them. It's a neat way to sample different burgers or sandwiches. And, sliders aren't really all that new. They've been around for years... White Castle has been doing them since the mid-1930's.

You really want my opinion ? lol stupid name for little burgers, sliders are more of a oyster in the half shell slide right down yum yum little hamburgers should have been called just that little burger, or mouthful burgers something like that, any one who slides a burger down whole has a big mouth and a better chance of chocking.

I believe White Castle spelled it 'slyders' and for whatever reason, others have incorporated the name into what is really only a 'small burger or sandwich'.

Think I recall reading on the White Castle site the whole story about them.

I've got to vote that the name 'slider' needs to go....they should just be called mini-burgers. And, yes, it is ridiculous to order three sliders when if you ordered one regular burger, it would be the same amount of food. Are we trying to kid ourselves?

Tiny burgers are very popular. That's what we had at the resort restaurant I posted pictures of. And chef's are getting very creative with them.

Funny how the trend is going from 'super-size' to 'tiny-size'.
