Thumbs down Strange and Disgusting Commercials

Strange and Disgusting Commercials

What is going on with commercials lately. So many are gross, sexual, or just plain weird. And I have an appreciation for weird commercials, but I see so many that don't make me want to buy the product being advertised they just gross me out.

Earlier this evening I saw this burger king commercial, its one in a series dealing with a Whopper family. In this one the Whopper father is trying to tell Whopper Jr. about what happens when a Whopper man and woman love each other. Then he gets uncomfortable or doesn't know what to say so he gives Jr an extra napkin to keep in his wallet. I don't know about everyone else, but that didn't make me want to go to BK. It just creeped me out.

And just a moment ago there was one for Starburst. These two guys working at a zoo wearing wet suits because they are brushing a whale's teeth. One guy tries a 'juicy' Starburst and gives one to the other guy. They comment that it was a good thing they had wet suits on because they were so juicy. So then the whale pukes on them not once, but twice. Again, gross.

Fast food burger sex talks, puking whales. None of this makes me want to buy the products in the commercial.

I worked for ad agencies years ago. Things seemed to be different back then. Copywriters actually wrote jingles for products. Today it seems that they just slap on a current song, or one from the past, instead of having the product be known by the public for its jingle.

Ok, when I was in advertising I worked for the agency that came up with these...can you identify the product?

"My bologna has a first name. It's......"
"Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is..."
"When it's Libby, Libby, Libby, on the label, label, label..." (Ok that one is easy)
"I can't believe I ate the whole thing"
"My dog's bigger than your dog, my dog's bigger than yours. My dogs bigger 'cause I give him ___ ___ ____. My dog's bigger than yours!"

Those are only a few and very memorable. I miss the old ads...they were not only informative, but fun.

The Hardees one where the guy eats the Chili dripping onto his pants from his cheeseburger with a french fry makes me sick.
