It has never even crossed my mind that I should probably turn the a/c off when the truck comes by, although I probably should. I live in Central Florida, so it would probably take an act of Congress to get me to turn the air off in the summer.
I think that on some level, the media and the mass public at large is probably a lot more hysterical about things than they used to be. Now that we have the internet and the ability to send out huge, mass emails, it only gets worse and makes people even more hysterical. On the other hand, the frequency at which some of this stuff is happening is alarming. I would think that after the first time or two, companies would become much more vigilant and do all they can to prevent it from happening again.
My other thought is that since we live in such a sue happy society, companies would rather incur the losses that would come with a mass recall than risk a multi-billion dollar lawsuit. I honestly just don't know.
